running without battery

can i run my thinkpad (tp42p) run without a battery.
and if yes, is there a part to fit in the battery slot (dummy piece of plastic)

Yes. Not that I'm aware of.

Before you do this, though, think about whether your data is worth more to you than the battery. It makes a mighty fine UPS when the power flickers.
