500mhz Processor in a Thinkpad 240

#1 Post by marvelousamarvyd » Sun Jan 30, 2005 10:00 am

Hello to all,

Can anyone tell me if I can replace my 300mhz celeron processor in my Thinkpad 240 with the 500mhz processor that came in the 240x? If so is this an easy process? I got this machine as a freebie and thought I might play with it a little. :)

No, you can't change the CPU in the 240 series, they're soldered to the MB.

But I'm pretty sure you can shoehorn a 240X MB into the 240 case.

BTW the 500MHz CPU is a PIII, not a Celeron, just in case that wasn't clear.

Yeah, you sure can swap a 500Mhz chassis into the 240 LCD. But just keep in mind that the [censored] chassis is $149+ on ebay, and the 240X are limited to 256MB in total (192 in actuality) instead of the 320MB in the 240. Ask yourself...IS IT WORTH IT?

Hell, I'll go with a TP240Z (2609-82J) or an i-Series S30/31 myself.
