new disk installation: "initializing"?

#1 Post by damorg » Fri Feb 04, 2005 9:21 pm

Hello All,

I just purchased a couple new drives (7K60s) and plan to install them in our thinkpads when they arrive (r32 and t41).

I use Acronis True Image for disk imaging and I just plan to snap images of the current drives and then push the image onto the new ones (this is the way I've done it using ghost, drive image, and acronis for years on numerous systems).

As I have recovery disks for both systems, I'm not concerned about preserving the hidden recovery partition.

My question may be silly but I just want to check: will this work as expected?? I assumed it would but as I did a little research in the forum about this procedure, I'm seeing various reports of this not working properly and/or people having to "initialize" the disk using a recovery disk as in this thread: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... &view=next ).

I've never run into this kind of situation before but I suppose anything is possible...

Thanks for any insight into this matter. :)

Dan

There is no need to initialize it unless your want a hidden partition area. Acronis will take care of everything for you.
