That dodgy looking IBM shop on Tottenham Court Road, Londo

#1 Post by Jonathan Cordery » Sun Feb 20, 2005 11:27 pm

Does anyone know whether that dodgy looking 'IBM' shop on Tottenham Court Road, London, is legitimate or not? It's about 1/4 of the way up on the right-hand-side, starting from Centre Point. They just sell IBM thinkpads, of all types, but they are always the older models. They have hand painted signs in the windows and sometimes the models do not have the specifications that they should have. The staff are always friendly and helpful though. I phoned up IBM once to ask them if this was an outlet of theirs but they said that they didn't have one in this area of town. Does anyone know where they might get these laptops from? Are they legitimate? Just curious.

I assume you are talking about "shamtronics" or something like that? If so, I have heard mixed experiences, but most people claim that their friendliness ends the moment you give them the money. I never bought anything directly from them, maybe someone else can give you more details, but if you are determined to pay, i would suggest using a card with buyer protection.

I have been trading with Shyamtronics for 4 years, through my job as a IT broker and they primary sell end-off-life thinkpads which they buys stright from IBM.
Regarding their customer service I have no experince but they have been on Tottenham Cour for more than 10 years so I don´t think you should have any worries
