Are there any advantages of the 128MB ATI Mobility Fire GL V3200 over the
older 128MB T2, or the new 64MB X300 (except for the obvious double
memory)?

The FireGL V3200 is a bit faster than the FireGL T2 based on raw numbers:

Hard to say if most people would notice a difference in games and applications.

Look likT43 is a very nice laptop and EXPENSIVE too, but still missing some features:
- Bluetooth 1.1 NOT 1.2
- NO Firewire
- NO Memory Slot for Digital Camera

What eles? any input?
P.S. I bet the T43P probably cost up to 3500 - 4000 USD

Still missing

Decent speakers
DVI and Analog adaptor
More USB 2.0 ports
Wide screen option

As for these

Bluetooth and Firewire are almost useless and will die soon
Parallel is useless and no serial port !

Check out the many posts to the pdfs with the announcements. The T43p pdf states that the planned availability is not until April. The GMA900 and the X300 are late Feb. The new TABOOK.pdf also has this info in it. There's another thread with the link, or you can go to Bill's storefront page, which also has a link to the tabook.

Firewire may be useless cause it got few USB 2.0 ports, but Bluetooth still useful if the laptop get one, you can use it with headset, cellphone etc.

firewire isnt gonna die yet because people still rely on it for digital video transfer. firewire has a steady transfer rate while usb 2.0 may be faster it does not have a steady transfer rate therefore dv cams generally use firewire. as for bluetooth... i think cell phones will continue relying on it.. but i'm not too familiar with the difference between 1.1 and 1.2. and for people complaining about camera memory sticks.... i think there are just too many different kinds...? i personally use cf cause of my powershot but i had a sony memstick for my clie... and i know a lot of people are using sd... well whatever just my two cents.

Definitely seems like the T43 is the refresh to the T4x series that the T23 provided to the T2x series.

The faster FSB, and other changes do seem to have the hallmark that the T23 had to the T20/21/22, as well as the new PCIe bus etc. I can't say the T43 has me extatically excited by the specification; but then I guess at least in some departments, the T43 is 'keeping up' with other manufacturer's laptops/notebooks/lap burners ;)

For now I will stick with my 3 year old T23, and I can see myself using it for many years yet before I find myself upgrading. :)

Perhaps I'll get a T43p in 2008 ;)

Unless I get a company laptop, all the more reason for me to hopefully suceed in getting a job with IBM....

- Speakers are not a big deal, although a better sound card would be nice so that you can use nice external speakers or headphones.

- DVI i think is also not that huge a deal since most monitors aren't DVI yet.. plus there is that new monitor standard comming out soon

- USB ports are always handy

- widescreen? i don'tpersonally think that's a problem

jstu some thoughts.

IIRC, it's regular PATA.

Hitachi's new line of 5K100 Travelstar series with significantly lower power consumption:

it's just vaporware as far as i am concerned.

i've looked for 2 full months--even willing to buy/DHL it to me.
nothing.

no such drive available in local retailer shops (the authorized distributor "is not importing this yet").

not one web site can offer you this 5K100 PATA hard drive (let alone a SATA version).

i've come to the conclusion that *perhaps* Hitachi only did a very limited production run of this 5K100, just enough for Computer Magazine Editors to do reviews.
