2373-3VU

#31 Post by scot » Wed Jun 30, 2004 4:08 pm

Any other 2373-3VU owners have an antenna? This is the model I'll be purchasing, I think, and that would just be a bonus! Thanks for checking, this would be an interesting "bug."

leesiulung,

No, 2672-5KU doesn't have a BT antenna. But as far as I see you can replace it yourself.

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... R-44049#19

The BT antenna is $12.50+tax and shipping.

hi scot,

I am also interested in 2373-3VU model. The educational price on IBM website of this model is $2,129.00. What is the price of your order?
BTW, it will be a minor pity if this model is without BT antenna.

kenji

Can someone point me to where I can find if the 2373-7XU has the BT antenna? I can't seem to find the info in the HMM.

Can't find it either. Remove the keyboard and check if the BT antenna is there.

Thanks G-Man.

Can I trouble you to go to http://www.pbase.com/kenn/t42_bluetooth and tell me if you can see the antenna cable? I don't know what to look for.

Thanks!

93P4166 - IBM Integrated 56K Modem (MDC-2) for T42/p

91P7319 - IBM Integrated Bluetooth III with 56K Modem (BMDC-2) for T42/p

Yes, you have the antenna installed in your unit. The antenna lead is the white wire coming off the connector on the modem daughtercard. Swap a combo card for the modem card, load the Bluetooth drivers and you'll be up and running.

James

Kenn, white cable under a modem is a BT Antenna. Mine, and my friends' 2373-7XU have an antenna. Check IBM Hardware Maintenance Manual:
http://www-306.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-46464
On page 209 two models 2373-7XU and 2374-7XU are listed with Security Chip and BT Antenna. According to tabook the difference is only in warranties.

Those part numbers are correct. There are some part numbers IBM site doesn't recognize. Call them.

Aphex,

Order the one with the older FRU number (91P7259). That's just $57.75, and there isn't much difference. By the way there is not a single one on Ebay.

Yeah, but the box IBM ships it is 10 times larger than the card itself.

can someone tell me if the 2373-DD3 has the bluetooth antenna built into the laptop? someone in another thread told me the DD3 was based on the 2373-3XU, but I wasn't able to reference that one either.

Nope. It will only work with T40/41. You need 91P7319 for T42.

G-man - (or others)

I have a T41 (2379-DJU) also, and I had to call IBM to get the clear plate (#13N5666) but they told me it was out of stock and the substitute part # is 13R2455 (which is for the T42). Will this work and show the B/T? Won't it say "T42" on it though?

Also, just curious....I know that the #91P7315 is the correct BMDC for my laptop, but why won't the newer #91P7319 (BMDC II) for the T42's work? Is it the newer B/T 1.2 specification and is it not compatible?

Thanks for the help...I am a newb that just found this forum but have been searching for this answer for a while and am very appreciative of everyone's help....

Hi Magik,
The 13R2455 is actually a bag of a whole mess of plates. It has every conceivable combination of regular, P, and bluetooth plates for the T40, T41 and T42s.

The 91P7319 will works fine in a 2379DJU.

Hope this helps.

Cool...thanks Frito...does the bag include a new plate for the lid face (when laptop is closed) that includes the B/T indicator? I noticed from someone's T42 pics that there was a B/T indicator on the front....

Also, what is the difference between the BMDC and BMDC II? You said the newer one works, but I already put my order in for the older one....I will try to call and get the newer one if it has increased functionality or range, etc. Please let me know....thanks for your help!

Yea, you get all the combinations of little plates that go on the outside of the case too.

I don't think there's any great difference between the two bluetooth cards. Range may be improved but since the bluetooth functionality is controlled by the computer you're not likely to miss anything.

Thanks everyone for your help...I got my new card installed with the new clear plate...Sweet! factory B/T!

It seems to work fine even before I installed the IBM B/T II Drivers....once I installed them though I got two different looking B/T icons in the system tray and a "My B/T Device" icon on the desktop that doesn't seem to work when I click on it....do I need to install the IBM drivers or what is the best way to set it up with SP2? I did a search of the forums but I haven't found what I'm looking for yet...any help is appreciated....thanks!

Ok, because I'm not exactly up to speed on all things, what exactly does adding a BT modem do for you?

Also, what is the telltale sign of a BT antenna? My laptop isn't supposed to have one (2373-3VU) but I do see a white wire leading out of the card, like in some of the previous discussions/pictures.

Sweet, I see it in there.

Ok. So why would I want a bluetooth card? What are the benefits? It sounds cool and all, but I want to make sure it is something that will do me some good!

i have an R40e 2684-HVG i know this is the T forum, but this is the only comprehesive bt thread here. hope you guys will forgive me :)

according the the bits of paper that came along with the laptop in the box, my model does have the bluetooth antenae already installed. i'm just wondering what part number i'm looking for? i've tried looking on ebay but there's really not much there. it would be cool if i could replace the plate to show bt aswell, but i don't know if there's an led to show bt connectivity back there or not.

i did find this guy on ebay though http://search.ebay.co.uk/_W0QQgotopageZ ... propertyZ1
