darn, now that i have some extra money saved up, all the cheap BT cards listed on the first page are gone :(

I refuse to pay $103 + 14 shipping for a BT card :D

Anyone know anywhere else i could get em?

So is it possible to upgrade my T40 2373-72U system (it has the regular modem) to bluetooth if I buy the BMDC, the antenna and the icon plate set?!

I've got a 2373-75U, and I'm doing the same thing you are baalbeck. I've got the BMDC, and I'm getting the icon plate and antenna once I actually get my ThinkPad. I'm confident that it will work. But someone mentioned here that if we mess with the screen, it will void the warranty. We might have to be mindful of that. My question is, do we really need the antenna? I mean, if my phone (which is what I intended to use my bluetooth for, connect to my T616 and cruise the Internet) is within 5 feet, do I really need my antenna? I'm actually going to test this before I spend money on a new antenna ($12.50 on shipping and voiding the warranty, on top of that). Just wanted to know before I tried. Thanks in advance.

I placed this order a few days ago on the IBM website. Today i finally called to check my order status, and they said that that card, IBM Integrated Bluetooth III with 56K Modem (BMDC-2) communication daughter card (FRU: 91P7319), is "not available", and it will never be available.

I also have the 2378FVU.

Did they say if any of the other cards were available?

So the part number we need (that is for the 2378FVU, at least) is 27r1880 , which replaced part number 91p7319.

However, I am having difficulty locating this new part number - 91p7319 - on IBM's website. Its not that I don't believe what they said. But I would like to be able to view product info on an item before I buy it. Has anyone delt with purchasing/installing this new card from IBM to use with their T42 (2378FVU or equivalent for our purposes)?

Thanks,
RP

I searched but could not find if the T42 - 2378REU has the bluetooth antennna built into it. It is a Canadian Express model. Any help would be appreciated. As I searched IBM Canada I noticed this listing for a T43 with the X300 card (Model 266895U) if anyone is interested.

I cannot find any information on FRU 27r1880 that replaced 91p7319.
Was anyone able to get any information on this new BMDC part?

The lady from IBM left 2 voicemails on my cell phone 2 days ago regarding this new part. however i havent even had time to fully listen to the message, because i'm getting ready to drive across the U.S. Actually i'm leaving as i type this message.

I'll check the voicemails and post when i can.

are you saying you have a bluetooth antenna built in? if so, i should check my 2378FUU.

2378CU1 Upgrades

#73 Post by marko » Sat Mar 05, 2005 12:01 pm

I would like to upgrade my thinkpad 2378CU1 (just noticed it is based on 2379-D3U) with bluetooth. Does my model come with a built-in antenna? From previous posts it does not seem so. Can i still do it?

Also, I woud like to upgrade the 21003B series WLAN card and put in a high speed 7200 60-80GB hard drive, any recommendations?

Do I need a new antenna if I want to put in a a/b/g series WLAN card?

Oh yeah, maybe a new chip, say 1.8 or something...what do you think, just as a possibility for keeping up in the future?

Thanks a lot,

Marko

does my t41 2373-8RG can be bluetooth upgraded?
if so, which is the best bluetooth mdc (bdmc) available? bmdc-4? or it should work only with bdmc2?

my access ibm helps says:
Your computer has a Communication Daughter Card (CDC) slot, in which you can install a Modem Daughter Card (MDC) or a Bluetooth Modem Daughter Card (BMDC).

but i dont know if the help is 23738rg oriented or t41 oriented.
