3 dvi lcds connected to a t41p?

#1 Post by sneakyazn » Tue Apr 12, 2005 12:59 pm

if i use the dock ii, would it be possible to still use the dvi on the unit and put in a pci card with dvi and get 2 dvi lcd monitors? does anybody know of a dual dvi pci card so that i could possibly get 3? I searched the forums and saw that some are using the pcmcia dvi cards, but i would prefer to just use a standard video card. any searches i do for a "dual dvi pci" card sends back cards for the new pci-e.

I tried this last week and could not get it to work. Everytime I would reboot the drivers would go haywire.

1 DVI LCD + 1 Analog LCD

#3 Post by bdicaire » Wed Apr 13, 2005 11:30 pm

If I use the dock may I use two external screen instead of 1 external and the laptop LCD ?

Do you have hints how to place the laptop lcd near enough so you can see someting and still far enough to have some desk estate to work ?

Thanks in advance

I have had no trouble using 2 external screens on the minidock or dock II - 1 is analog and one is dvi. I do it often.

As far as using the external with the internal LCD - the only time I do it is when I use the main screen with a keyboard and mouse to review large documents and use the laptop screen off to the side at 45% or at 90% on an L-shaped desk. I use the second screen for a few minutes at a time to take notes. When I do this - the external is the main screen.

OK - there is 1 other time I do it. Sometimes I use Napster or Media player as the only app on the second screen so I can look over and see what song is playing...

thanks for the reply awolfe, i'm so jealous of your 24" lcd :). So if I can't do 3 dvi's, would it be possible to do two by plugging in a dual dvi pci card? i found a geforce 5200 with dual dvi. Or i also have a pci card with a dvi/vga. Would i be able to use the dvi on the dock, and a dvi on the video card? the main reason I want this is because the 2 lcds will be right next to each other and i know i'll go nuts if i can tell the difference. Thanks monitor gurus :)

The NVidia Quadro NVS 280 should do the trick.

Appian (<link removed by request from new owner>) also sells several dual/quad DVI boards that I know fit in the Dock I or II.

If you stumble across the Matrox QID board (also quad DVI), be aware that it does not fit in either Docking station (just barely!).
Apathy is on the rise, but nobody seems to care.

darnit, the matrox cards were what i was looking at. I assume that it does not fit because of the length? Do you know what length video card would fit in? They state "half-sized pci", but tech support couldn't go beyond that.

The Dock II manual says 6.9" for "half size".

I put an ATI 9200SE card in my dock and got it working when al hell broke loose. Everything started crashing. Took me a week to get back to 1 monitor again - so I have not been able to figure out how to get it to work.

When an XP machine has two video cards - is it supposed to use 2 drivers? I may try it on a less mission critical machine first to figure it out.
