Recovery CD - Best Excuse?

#1 Post by senthil » Mon Apr 18, 2005 3:59 pm

I collected a few...

1. Hard drive crashed.
2. Installed linux ...

Anything else which is considered to be the best?

I got a set of CDs by telling the truth.

I tried running the "Create Product Recovery CDs" utility, and it churned for a bit and then came back with "The application aborted due to an internal error."

Okay...

The guy on the IBM support line gave me a little grief; I was polite but firm that it's IBM's responsibility to enable me to recover the system, as per their license. I tried it "their way" by making CDs from the service partition, and when that failed it was up to them to fix it.

I have recovery CD's for every ThinkPad I bought back to my old A22e. I just said I was installing a larger hard drive (true half the time), and got free CD's. I got CD's for a client just by saying hard drive failure was a matter of when, not if, and could I have one set for the ThinkPads and one set for the Desktops. No issue. I think things have changed in the last year in terms of fees, but I would probably pay just to have a set.

Any other excuse which will make them send the CD's without any question?

This is very annoying.... :x

Hmm I just told them I had reformatted it, and needed the CDs. Aren't they supposed to give you them without questions asked? Or has IBM changed their policy.. 40$ sounds steep.

I was told they recently changed their policy for recovery CD's...

Can't you just create Recovery CDs? I did when I got my machine before I removed the hidden recovery partition.
