How bad of a problem is 'ghosting' on the flexview 15"

#1 Post by esquire » Wed Jun 16, 2004 10:33 am

I have read several reviews on other sites of people saying the flexview has very noticable ghosting when viewing DVD's or playing games....or even when dragging a window across the screen. :?

Any first hand reports from this group would be appreciated. :o

Search is your friend!

Do a search of the forums for ghosting or FlexView. This topic has been discussed a lot already so starting a new thread won't serve much of a purpose.

I think the consensus is that you have to see a Flexview for yourself. Some people notice ghosting/shadowing/artifacts, some don't. Some games look better than others, and as far as I know, the DVDs play fine. On my T42 (2373CYU) with 15" SXGA+ Flexview, I noticed moderate ghosting on fast-action games and benchmarks, some very light shadowing/artifacts on only certain high-contrast still images/screens, and very good DVD play.

It all comes down to personal preference. I would say that on the whole, the Flexview is the superior screen as the black is 'blacker' without any backlight washing it out, and the white is 'whiter' and the colors are generally more vivid/solid/accurate, especially on CAD and 3D stuff. If there were 14" Flexview screens, that would be the ideal size/performance/quality combination. That's one of the reasons I returned my T42 (2373CYU) 15" SXGA+ Flexview and ordered a T42p (2373GRU) 14" SXGA+ Non-Flexview ThinkPad. I ultimately wanted the smaller form factor. However, if I had to choose between a Flexview and non-Flexview screen, both the same size and resolution, I would choose Flexview everytime. It's just so much nicer to look at. Unfortunately, there aren't any 14" Flexview screens, so I sacrificed the superior screen for the smaller form factor and better battery life.

And no... even looking at screen shots doesn't do any good, other than to get an idea of the size and the superior brightness/contrast between a 15" v. 14" screen and/or Flexview v. Non-Flexview. You really just need to see them in person.

Daniel.

Would Flexview screens burn out quicker than regular screens, because it uses so much power?
