T series feature matrix
T series feature matrix
I'm curious as to which models have SXGA, wireless, USB2, and what processor speed they are,
I'm specifically curious to the T2x series, but also T3x and T4x series.
Basically I would like to find the document that tells me everything at a glance based on the model number.
what was the first T with usb2? T23?

here's my view on thinkpads:
the things I don't like about my T21 (and T20) are:
1. no touchpad
2. no usb2
3. no built in wireless
I would say no SXGA, but I just got a T21 with SXGA and now i'm happy as a clam.
I cannot afford (nor justify spending) $1000+ for a laptop whose performance can be matched by a computer that is 2 years old, and a third the price!
Basically I would be paying $1000 for
1. the three things listed above
2. slight speed increase.
The speed is not necessary for me as I don't do anything beyond a little audio and photo editing.
well, 99% of what i do is surf the web and type emails. This can be done with computers that are 5 years old!!!
So now I have two laptops and I can do more with them than one T4x...
Plus, parts are abundant, and I think they are of a far higher quality than any other laptop out there.
blah blah blah, thanks for reading.
I'm very impressed that you are an expert on the features of the T series. Can you tell me the difference between the R and A series? (I understand the X)
Oh, and the T30 is too beefy for me. Heavier and thicker. not interested!

Ok first of all, I'm not so well up on the A and R series but what I do know is:
A20p - 700/750MHz PIIIm, 256KB L2 cache, 512mb max, 1400x1050 15" TFT
A21p - 850MHz PIIIm, 256KB L2 cache, 512mb max, 1600x1200 15" TFT
A22p - 1GHz PIIIm, 256KB L2 cache, 512mb max, 1600x1200 15" TFT
A30p - 1.2Ghz PIIIm Tualatin, 512KB L2 cache, 1GB max, 1600x1200 15" TFT
A31p - 1.6-2.6GHz P4m, 512KB L2 cache, 1GB max, 1600x1200 15" TFT
Unsure of the A30p's graphics chipset but I know the A20p/21p/22p (i think) have a 16meg ATI Mobility chip. The A31p has a ATI FireGL 7800 64meg chip.
R series.
R30/R31 - PIIIm/Celeron based, 2 PCMCIA slots, IrDA, 1GB max, 13.3/14.1" TFT, SVHS out. R31 is very much like the T23, except not a slim. PC133.
R32 - Pentium 4m based.
R40e - Pentium/Celeron 4m based 1.6-2.4GHz. No IrDA. 1 PCMCIA slot. 1GB max (?), no SVHS out. (PC2100)
R40 - Pentium 4m/Pentium m based, IrDA, 2 PCMCIA slots (?), 2GB max (?), SVHS out (PC2100). Some XGA, some SXGA, 13.3"/14.1" and 15" TFT.
R50p - much like an A31p, but Pentium-m 1.7GHz, FireGL T2 128MB graphics, 15" UXGA.
R50/R51 - not so sure.
Best best is Tabook on these ones as I only really know the T series inside out. (I have omitted info on the A20e/21e/22e/22m here as I do not know
)

T42/1 Matrix
The following link is to an Excel matrix that I created to help me decide on a T4x series. Just use the drop-lists at the top to filter down to the machine that meets your needs. Let me know if it is what you are looking for.

Re: T42/1 Matrix
Just wanted to say thanks for the Excel file. It's great! I get lost w/ all the abbreviations also.
What is that date that you entered those prices?

As far as I know, the T20/21/22 used the Mobile Pentium III processor.lilserenity wrote:Processor...

The Mobile Pentium III processor - M was introduced in the T23.
The difference between the Mobile Pentium III and the Mobile Pentium III -M is that the P3-M supports a 133Mhz bus and 512kb cache compared to P3 which is 100Mhz bus and 256kb cache.

Which is kinda what I said
I'm unaware that the -m was added to the Tualatin cores but I'm sure you are right.
But the Tualatin vs. CuMine core is a pretty important as it does run cooler than the top end CuMine based ones. In essence the Tualatin Pentium IIIs do provide a good enough improvement over the older mobile ones.
Also the L2 cache is 8 way associated in the Tualatin core AFAIK, instead of 4 way on the older Pentium III Mobile generation.

Glad it helped.aghusker wrote:Just wanted to say thanks for the Excel file. It's great! I get lost w/ all the abbreviations also.

The prices are as of the first week in June, so they have probably dropped a bit since I created the matrix. I included the prices to help keep me within my general price range.
The tabook.pdf details what each of the abbreviations stand for.
The Fastest T21 Alive?
And of course... you can do a "Monster Garage" deal on your T21 and install the PIII 1.0 Ghz cpu with the 100MHz bus. It's a 15-minute swap and recommended only if you can find the cpu package relatively cheap and have already max'd the memory and HDD.
I did it, and it ran like a charm.
