Best screen resolution for text?

For a college bound student that will primarily use his 14.1 inch screen for typing/word processing, which is the preferred resolution, XGA or SXGA?
It is all so confusing! I know that watching video is better on SXGA...but would SXGA be difficult on my eyes for text using a 14.1" screen?

I'd say definitely get the SXGA+...IMHO, XGA is only needed for people with less-than-perfect eyesight. Assuming you are like the average college student with good eyesight, SXGA+ isn't hard to read or anything at all. Plus, remember that you can change the DPI setting and make the text larger if you end up thinking it is too small. I use my T41 (with SXGA+) all the time and have no difficulty at all reading the text. Now whenever I see an XGA screen, I'm always surprised at how little screen space there is on it.

only you can be the judge of that. some people love it, some people can live with it, some people hate it, etc.

what you could do is go to a local computer store (bestbuy, frys, etc) or even order one from ibm, keeping in mind their 30 day return policy, to test it out for yourself.

Get the highest resolutio screen possible for the size and then adjust the windows settings so that the text is the size you're comfortable with. That way the high pixel density will make the text look as smooth as possible and give you less eye strain.

I'd get the SXGA+ and turn on cleartext fonts in XP - Once you've used the cleartext fonts, you won't go back...
