Adding bluetooth to a T43

#1 Post by coconutdevil » Thu May 12, 2005 12:11 am

Hello all,

I tried to find an answer to the question I'm about to ask... sorry if this has been answered already.

I would like to add bluetooth to my new ThinkPad T43 2687-D8U. The Canadian thinkpad.com site is not really helpful at the moment, as it will not recognize my laptop model and suggest me which component I would need to upgrade.

What do I have to buy and would it be an user-friendly upgrade ?

Thanks in advance !

Hello,

I do not own a T43 but I wanted to upgrade my T42 with bluetooth module and the most important thing was to check whether the machine had already a bleutooth antenna.

I removed the modem and saw that there was a bluotooth antenna under the modem and tried the blutooth modem CDC card from one of my T40 and it worked perfectly.

Fn+F5 combination works to turn it on and of, but there was not any green BT light next to the wi-fi led underneet the screen.

And you should be able to order it directly from IBM, here in the UK it costs 36 pounds + Postage; this is is BT III card, I think it is the same one with the T43

I hope this would be some help

T42 2373-4BI 1.7Ghz

Thanks albatros. I don't have a 2687D3U yet but I would appreciate it if someone could do as this to find out if it has an antenna and/or a place to put the card.

I did this to my t41 last year.. it had no antenna and no card.. (the bluetooth was on a daughter card with the modem)

i bought both and installed them.. all the howto was in the ibm manuals (available in pdf from their site) it was pretty easy.. but i did have to take apart most of the puter including the screen.

not hard as long as you take your time, read the manual and use common sense.

anyway.. that's the worst case.. if you have an antenna already.. (i don't think ibm is usually this generous if you didn't order BT) then the install should be as easy as swapping out the modem card.

Download the Thinkpad hardware maintenance manual when it comes out for T43. HMM lists exactly which model has bluetooth antenna or not.

If you don't have the antenna you definitely need one. That said, it doesn't need to go into the back of LCD if it's too difficult to install for some. Having the antenna under the keyboard is good enough for most.

Search for T43 parts at Lenovo site to lookup the FRU number. You can then call IBM Parts over phone to order it.
