no-1803 patch ever created for T4x?

#1 Post by dandreye » Wed Jan 27, 2016 7:40 pm

Hi All,

Assuming the no-1802 patch doesn't also disable BT/Modem DC whitelist, has a similar no-1803 patch ever been created for T4x? I recently ordered a BMDC-2 card for my T42 but the seller shipped a newer BMDC-3 one suitable only for T43 in T4x series by mistake (39T0026), so I'm getting a 1803 Unauthorized Daughter Card with it. It'd be nice to fit BMDC-3 into T42 for the sake of BT v1.2, which seems to have a few useful features not available in v1.1.

Many thanks in advance!

There never was ANY No-1803 ever...
There were No-1802 programs, but they only worked for Thinkpads (and other brands) up to and including T42/p.
T43 and up uses different BIOSes, that need to get a so-called whitelist removed.
Forum member ttav134 wrote such a BIOS-mod for the T43, see for more info: http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/BIOS_Upgrade

I remember reading about a modded BIOS for T42 a couple of years ago, but have never had a chance to use it...whether this would resolve the "1803 error" I don't have the slightest idea, but it might be worth investigating...

Good luck.

Thanks for your replies.

Looks like he also wrote a similar BIOS mod for T40(p)-T42(p) to allow unauthorized WiFi cards in them too:
http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=79095
https://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread- ... -whitelist

(although no-1802.com method looks much easier in my opinion)

Nothing is mentioned anywhere about 1803 though: looks like everyone was mostly concerned with WiFi those days.

If you want newer/faster BT, better get a USB BT-dongle.
And leave that modem[/BT] card out altogether to save some energy.

True actually ) I was just hoping to have nothing sticking out (even a small mushroom-type dongle that I have lying around) and occupying precious USB ports. As I already ordered the right daughter card elsewhere I'll have to give it a go once it turns up, and if it's not good enough I'll revert to the dongle. My primary use of BT is a mouse (BT ones are preferred over non-BT ones for the very same reason: to keep more USB ports free) as well as old style cell phone connectivity (Nokia PC Suite).

If you are that keen on USB ports, get one of these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/370649300986
2-Port USB2.0 PCMCIA/CardBus Card/Adapter

Wow: much appreciated! Just got myself one. Was looking at that hardly ever used PCMCIA slot literally yesterday thinking how much space it takes for nothing.. 2 extra USB2 ports are probably its best use these days! (seen a 4x USB version too but it won't fit into the slot entirely)
