Trying to get a 3rd USB connector on the T42

#1 Post by smashkenazi » Sat Jun 11, 2016 6:11 am

The T42 doesn't have a Serial or PS/2 port but instead there is a round 5 contact connector which I believe is "S-Video Out".
There is also a parallel printer port.

Has anyone succeeded in turning these into a 3rd USB connector?

Using the rear parallel port connection would be the most aesthetically pleasing on my desktop. Maybe the speed would be fine for mouse input.

If more USB ports is what you need, a USB hub would be a simple solution. If serial port and PS/2 is what you need, a port replicator would be a cheap and simple solution (it has both).

Now why didn't I think of that, dr_st? That's exactly what I've done with a couple of my ThinkPads. Much better for portability than a hub.
