Hitachi 7k100 IBM firmware files/instructions needed
Hitachi 7k100 IBM firmware files/instructions needed
Hi all
I've got (arriving soon) an Hitachi 7k100 100 GB HDD [HTS721010G9AT00] and I wanted to replace the OEM firmware with the IBM version, as to get rid of the 2010 error on my T43p.
It seems the files suggested for this, from the topic http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20858 , are no longer available.
I don't suppose any of you nice people have the files laying around or could provide me with instructions on how to flash it without them particular files?
Thanks!

Don't mess with firmware.
Instead install TTAV134's BIOS from here: https://archive.org/details/T43SLIC2.17 ... 0ByTTAV134

That certainly sounds safer, and that's probably what I'll end up doing in the end.RealBlackStuff wrote:Don't mess with firmware.

For future reference, though, I might have figured it. Does this sound right for me?
1. Download Lenovo's PATA HDD update tool (https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/dk/en/oldd ... s/ds002826)
2. Find the FW.PRO file on the downloaded ISO and make a note of the line containing your drive, e.g.
"HTS721010G9AT00","MCZIA41M","MCZIA5DA","MCZIA5DA.bdr","hfui15.exe","IA5DA","/u mpcA5DAb.tbl"
Details to note in my case:
MCZIA5DA.bdr: New firmware file
hfui15.exe: Flash program for specified harddisk
IA5DA: Version control phrase
mpcA5DAb.tbl: CHECKSUM file
3. Burn the bootable ISO to a CD
4. Boot the CD up on the ThinkPad in question
5. At prompt enter 'copy mczia5da.bdf mczoa5da.bdf'
6. Then run hfui15.exe oa5da mczia5da.bdr /f mpca5dab.tbl
7. Finally run hfui15.exe ia5da mczia5da.bdr /f mpca5dab.tbl

Re: Hitachi 7k100 IBM firmware files/instructions needed
There's no need for it, once the modded BIOS is installed.
I've never done it and never will either.
IMHO it's a total waste of time, especially with TTAV's BIOS available. YMMV.

You're right, changing the BIOS does sound like less work and less risk. That's what I will do instead, I think.RealBlackStuff wrote:There's no need for it, once the modded BIOS is installed.

Thanks for the link to the new BIOS! This will save me a potential headache.

FYI the firmware utility is here:
https://support.lenovo.com/ca/en/solutions/migr-64744
Since your model is not officially supported, it is better off with the BIOS whitelist, but I used that utility instead and it works great - as long as you know what you are doing. The autorun's success rate is not high and does not allow you to do anything else, so the better way is to dig inside and see which is the right version to run, start dos and run it there

Re: Hitachi 7k100 IBM firmware files/instructions needed
It does list my model on that page, it seems
.
If I decide to use the FW update method instead of the BIOS update method, would the steps I listed above be the correct way to proceed?
