I am going to say T50 because of the major revamps of the next Intel mobile products. Intel is coming out with Sonoma and Alviso, the two codenames of the new chip and chipset. The new chip will have a 533MHz FSB, and will top out at 2.13GHz, or a 770 in the new numbering scheme. The new chipset will contain several improvements including better audio, video, as well as support for fast DDR2 RAM. As you can see, this isn't a simple change. There are going to be some serious motherboard redesigns, hence my choice for new generation IBM T-series...the T50!

Intel has the new chip/chipset due out in Q4 of this year. I wouldn't bet on it though. I'd say Q1 2005 for the parts to be released, and by the time IBM builds the machines with these new components...early spring 2005.

I can't wait for this to come out!!! :D

Purchase a laptop when you need one. Don't bother with the new technologies potentially on the horizon. Intel hasn't even announced release dates for their new chips and chipsets. If I recall correctly the Dothan chip was delayed many months from its original release date, as are most intel products. You could easily be waiting until the beginning of next year for these new chips, and even longer for laptops with these chips to come out. The T42 line is barely a month old, and the Dothan chip is only a month and a half old. I'd say now is a great time to buy. As many have said before, the computer industry is constantly changing, and if you keep waiting for the next big thing you'll never buy anything.

If you look at the intel specs for the new notebook chipsets you will see that there will be a big increase in power consumtion with the new 533Mhz bus. The faster proccessors will cunsume a little more power. I am not so sure that I want the fast bus if is uses as much power as the current specs state.

The current IBM roadmap for the ThinkPads specifies T43 in Q4, which will come out before any T5x models. If that is the case, then like the T42, it may just mean a processor upgrade (+ faster FSB... which aligns with Intel's roadmap). I would tend to agree that the complete Alviso/Sonoma implementation with all the trimmings would suggest a T5x designation... we shall see.

I wonder if they'll start with the multicolored thinkpads by the T43 or whether it will come next year? If its by winter, I'm glad I got the last line of 'true' Thinkpads!

Intel never announced anything. Digitimes reported that an unnamed Taiwanese ODM claimed this.

xbitlabs says that an Intel rep told them there is no delay.

That's incorrect. It was Alderwood and Grantsdale that were released this week.

T50

#21 Post by ipXpert » Sat Jun 26, 2004 6:14 pm

IBM has decided to jump to T50 instead of T43. T50 just sounds better than T43 it will sport the new mobile 64 bit CPU with speads starting at 2.2 and topping out at 3. This is a new LV 64bit CPU that is going to be the AMD mobile killer. AMD has a new mobile CPU that is slated for Q4 that has mobile power needs with better than current desktop performance. Oh yea, this is just a rumor. When I saw someone asking about a "T43" I just had to do this. I forgot to mention that the new internal bat is kinetic-gel techology that will convert the energy used by typing on the keyboard and convert it to a gel bat. Expected real world up time without a charge should be 24hours.

Kinetic gel? That sounds too good to be true. I will wait judgement when that appears on the market. Sounds really cool!
