Don't know anything else yet, just about to let Software Installer download it.

Well,
I haven't seen an update for the Client security software yet, though it seems like this is the start of a round of new updates. I just got a new version of Software installer as well. At least the Fingerprint software itself hasn't caused any problems for me as of yet, though I don't see any new features either.

I don't get it with the compulsive updating that goes on. The fingerprint recognition on my ThinkPad works perfectly. Since it already works perfectly an update can't make it better, it can only make it worse. So why would I want to mess around with it?

Well I went ahead and installed it. I don't have the IBM security software installed. The installation of the FP software went well. It now seems quite a bit faster in recognizing the fingerprint and logging me in. Although it now has this annoying red icon of a hand with a finger pointing on every fingerprint screen.

snap - it seems better at recognising my fingerprint and faster too.

Thought it was just my imagination - thanks kaplanfx! :)

just upgraded the software installer but it doesn't detect the new fp software.
I do see a new version 4.6.0 in the driver's matrix.

For my T42, personally I won't upgrade FingerPrint software anymore until Lenovo makes available a new version that lets you log onto specific web pages with a swipe of your finger (a different UserID & Password for each web site).

Previous postings in this forum did mention that IBM a few months did say such a version is being worked on for "next year [2006], but guess this is still up in the air with Lenovo changes.

I hope that no major changes with Lenovo...

There is already software to do that, its included in the ibm security software. You can find it at http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-46391 however I have not tried it as it only works with internet explorer and I use firefox.

Did they pull the software update?

I have two identical T43s, identical in every aspect... one picked it up fine, went to update the other today and it's not there...

Looking for the installer online now, and trying to dig through my other thinkpad's hard drive to figure out where it downloaded the installer to...

I bet they did pull it - I wonder if they found a security bug? I used the IBM ThinkVantage Software Installer utility to check what my drivers where and it shows the Fingerprint Software as version 4.5.3.167 and when I run the IBM Update Connector (version 6.1) it reports my system as up-to-date.

It's not on the website either? (I can never find anything on IBM's site.)

The new software has a slightly different look on the login/logging-out screen.

It also has a GREEN light when the "Consolidating" process finishes and the fingerprint is accepted.

I'm pretty sure the old software would light a RED indicator above the finger, which was strange for "OK, Good". Maybe a bug.

I could be wrong, but the new software seems to "reset" quicker when a scan fails. The old one would take longer to go from "Move Left" to "ready again".

ThinkPad Driver Matrix
If you go to that page you will find the fingerprint software (at least for T42) is "Currently Unavialable"
