T40: USB-port blocks clock throttling of cpu

#1 Post by troubadix » Wed Sep 14, 2005 1:56 pm

Hello,

first time here I have a problem with my IBM Thinkpad T40, system data are:

Type of machine - model: 23738CG
Number of the system unit: 995HGNC
Number of the system plate: J1V7542W1W8
BIOS version: 3.17 (1RETDLWW)
Date of the BIOS: 27-07-2005
Integrated CONTROLLERS - version: 3.04

the further system data you will find here:

http://schmitz.myftp.org/t40/system.txt

If I operate a USB mouse (5V, 100mA nominal dates) or another USB equipment, energy consumption rises disproportionately over approx.. 2.5 Watts, the remaining battery operation time drops accordingly and clock throttling of the CPU is inactivated, -> screenshots:

without USB: http://schmitz.myftp.org/t40/ohneUSB.jpg

with USB: http://schmitz.myftp.org/t40/mitUSB.jpg

The analyzers are:

IBM Thinkpad Battery Information

Right Mark Gotcha http://cpu.rightmark.org/products/rmgotcha.shtml

SpeedswitchXP http://www.diefer.de/speedswitchxp/indexd.html

I guess it's a southbridge / driver problem.
The effects partly also then arise, if without USB device connection
USB-controllers in the device manager are addressed.
Is there a possibility, to avoid this effect and to have the full
To use battery running time also with USB Mouse?

Any idea? Thnx!

Greetings from Germany,
