Anybody tried one yet? Any reason why it wouldn't work?

is there any reason why you are choosing the Seagate 7200.1 over the Hitachi 7K100?

Good question. I thought the 7K100s weren't out yet but after a little googling, I'll probably be going with the 7K100

It worked on a ThinkPad T42 2373-4WS at work, using bios 3.18 and embedded 3.04

IBM ThinkPad T42 CTU # Pentium M 1.8 Ghz Dothan # Mobility 9600 64 MB @375/240 # Hynix 1024 MB PC2700 RAM #
Fujitsu 80 GB 5400 RPM # LG CDRW/DVD Combo Drive # Intel Wireless b/g mPCI # TFT 14.1 XGA Display # WinXP Pro SP2 Catalyst 7.7

I was also thinking of getting and trying the Seagate 7200.1

Why? I have always been impressed with seagate drives, I put one in my old T23 and it really have it a new lease of life and boosted performance tremendously.

Will let you guys know in appropriate thread how I get on with it

looks like the Hitach is the clear winner:

I disagree that is a "clear winner." The Hitachi is slightly faster and much cheaper than the Seagate, but the Seagate is quieter. That could be important to people who use Thinkpads in a business setting.
Apathy is on the rise, but nobody seems to care.

I've also read the folks are able to use the 7200.1 in a T43 without any 2010 error messages, so that alone would be worth the extra $.
