How many people here have ever heard a T43 making a high-pitch and low/mid volume noise
I received a T43 2686M7U two weeks ago. I had its device drivers updated to the latest. So far everything seems great except this noise issue.
There are at least two ways to easily trigger/check this problem for this model:
A: Working in powered-by-battery mode
1. Unplug AC unit from the system, install battery, and turn on the system
2. Mute the speaker.
3. Connect USB device (USB mouse or jump drive, etc.) to the USB port
4. Let the system idle for 2 – 10 seconds.
* A constant high-pitch noise could be triggered near the upper-left corner of the keyboard area.
* An intermittent lower-pitch-and-lower-volume noise could also be noticed without connecting any USB devices to the system.
* Some posts report a few variances such as intermittent/constant noise when powered by AC or during battery charging.
B: Working in powered-by-AC mode
1. Use AC unit to power up the system
2. Mute the speaker.
3. Set power/battery management scheme to IBM default.
4. Open a web page or a Text file, resize or scroll the application window.
* A lower-volume noise could be triggered by each adjustment made to the window.
* In T43 power management scheme, decreasing CPU setting to “Adaptive” or lower, and setting fan option to “balance all parameters” may remove the sound for this case.
