Wish to buy T40...

#1 Post by lilserenity » Mon May 24, 2004 4:30 pm

Hiya,

I'm on the ThinkPad Mailing List; so maybe there will be some familiar names here, anyway, anyway without beating about the bush I'm Vicky and love ThinkPads.

So...

I am looking to invest in an IBM ThinkPad T40 when I am in the USA this summer (I'm in the UK) - I plan on taking my existing T23 (my main machine other the my server, a 560Z and my solid state system, a 560X) out there, sell it out there, and bring back a T40 with me ;-)

I am looking for basically:

- SXGA (1400x1050) Display
- 512MB
- 30GB+ Hard Disk

I have seen ones on eBay.com such as:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 93131&rd=1

Which seem a cracking deal (Pentium M-1.6GHz etc.), no hard disk, memory or ultraslim bay device, but all the same those extras don't cost too much.

I was wondering whether $1,149.00 was a good deal on such a specification; or whether in the USA there is some secret place that has T40s at a good price :-)

I specifically want a T40 since the T41s are still quite pricy (for my budget) and I am struggling to discern actually the difference between the T40 and T41 beyond their name badge. (I mean some models are different, some T40s have a 16MB ATI Gfx Chip, no T41s to my knowledge do, but then some T40s and T41s have a Radeon 9000 32MB, *shrugs*).

Any ideas on good places, good deals?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Vicky,

Why don't you email Bill (the host of this forum: bill@thinkpads.com). I'm sure he can work out a really good price for you.

Regards,
G-Man

Yeah well I thought I'd check it out, have a mooch like :-)

Looks pretty [censored] cool! But what's with the toucan/pelican/big beaked bird with the crown? :-D

Soon I will announce a chatroom on my ThinkPad site on my website, as I have been busy beavering away with PHP/mySQL this weekend. I have actually finished the chatroom client, works well. But that's on 'another' *ahem* part of my website.

Still, off to email Bill, unless you have something lined up James :-)

I would have expected a professional pub crawler such as yourself to have immediately recognized the logo of the renowned Beak and Crown!

Bill's the go-to guy for what you're looking for. If I hear of something to meet your needs before you get to Chi-town I'll let you know.

Haha :) Well yesterday it was just The Cobbler's thumb.

Oh and then on to The Engineers.

And then... I'm not sure, it got a bit hazy at that point. But hey, I had 4 pints of stella by then...

teehee

But I have been busy this weekend, well Saturday on my PHP/MySQL code, but yesterday was definitely play time :-)

I have emailed Bill and await a reply, but I know he is so busy so there's no rush :)
