Did Your T42 or T42P Ship?

#1 Post by shfawaz » Tue May 25, 2004 9:08 pm

If you ordered one, and it has shipped (or you recieved it already) share your experience here. When did you order, where did you order, and which model did you order? It will give everyone an idea of which models are shipping and which are not, and we can help you celebrate your new acquisition!

Does IBM charge your credit card when you order or when the notebook ships?

2379DX Shipped Today

#8 Post by Bitterman » Wed May 26, 2004 2:19 am

My 2379DX shipped today! I ordered it on 5/17

On my order slip, the estimated ship date was 6/29 - (i was dissapointed)
Then on the web site the status page told me to call - (i was kinda scared)

Then yesterday... the status changed to Customizing/Packaging, and the site said it would take around 5 days to complete and test. (i was optimistic)

Then tonight (late tonight) the status changed to shipped! (Yeeeehaw)
... and they sent it second day UPS.

So I should have it on Thursday...

That's my report....

They authorize your credit card within 24-48 hours of placing your order. The only charge your card when your order actually ships.

I am the most bitter of all.

I am the earliest to order...but apparently I am not important enough.

So IBM ships every other chap's thinkpad before me.

I am soo freaking sad.

Unless there is someone who ordered on May 11th.... no one should have their pad's shipped before me.

Whatever became of the first come first serve!

It really depends on which models IBM is building, which also is dependent on part availability. Which model did you order?

Why all this talk about Bill buying them all? I haven't heard that Bill has taken delivery of any T42's just yet, unless I'm missing something. Fact is, there are much LARGER fish in the pool ordering hundreds of T42's compared to the quantities Bill is ordering. Those larger orders will pale in comparison to Bill's orders. Fact is, IBM will fill larger orders whenever possible (makes sense). Besides, who is Bill ordering for anyway??? Certainly not for himself--they all go to his customers. If Bill should get some models sooner rather than later than we do, you can attribute that to his long term relationship with IBM, and IBM's policy of rewarding loyalty and supporting it's dealer network. My theory is if you are worried that he'll take delivery sooner than you, then place your order with him. You'll be supporting this board, thinkpads.com, and help feed the birds :D

IBM usually ships larger orders first, for example to companies, then individual orders like yours guys. So basically if you order a 2373-3VU and a company orders the same one after you, there is a big chance that this company will get your TP first. I know it’s sad, but money talks.

Just as a minor point on this matter, my wife's employer has an order in with IBM for an assortment of T40s and T42s. Total order is for 11K machines. Yes, ELEVEN THOUSAND!

Now who do you think will get their order filled first?

I am like wt*** there are plenty of individual who ordered after I did...like a week later and theirs are in their hand...eg conmee....

I guess its just that IBM hate me. I ordered on the 11th of may my T42p 2379- EZU....

Model wise its also a bad choice....but but...come on .... built the [censored] pad already...

The reason I got mine so quickly is probably due to the fact that I ordered an Express model. They're likely to have been planning on having those out the door first.

James,

Can you get me a T42 from that order please? They wouldn't even discover that one missing TP. They have enough anyway.

I would not be surprised if your open bay model takes a little longer for them to get around to making. I do not know what their assembly strategy is, but since they at the moment are concerned with getting the maximal number of units out the door, it seems reasonable that they would focus on off-the-shelf configurations first.

My 2379-DYU was shipped "today" (i.e. 3am this morning EDT) from Hong Kong by UPS 2nd day air. But when I click on "tracking" it gives no scheduled delivery date and the destination of it plus the 103 other items in the shipment is Lake Forest IL. But I live in Pittsburgh. :?:

How does the tracking show up for you?

Mofongo

P.S. I ordered it on 5/18.

That's just UPS - their tracking is ate-up initially as it doesn't seem to handle the time differences well. Our systems should hit Anchorage, Alaska some time this evening and they'll show them arriving in Anchorage *before* they shipped from China.
:?

Once in the US (and actually probably when it hits your door-step) they tracking seems to magically sort itself out and look useful (just showing your unit.)

For some reason all we see initially is the bulk order of all the t-pads in this shipment.

No idea why -
