Thinkpad Speaker Volume
Thinkpad Speaker Volume
I have a 600X, and use it outside all the time to listen to music and internet radio from the built in speakers. Often I need to play it quite loudly, and it is up to the task. Here is my concern... considering buying a new T Series laptop, but have heard some opinions that the speakers are weak/not very loud. Is thst the case? If I am indoors, the 600X at maximum volume is actually too loud to be comfortable. What is your experience with the volume level on the T Series?

i would not expect the T42 to be better than the T41 or T40..
and i would classify most thinkpad speakers as lo-fi generally, ok-fi in some instanses, very good in the case of the 770 X & Z, terrible in the case of the A20/21 series..
the T40 series is ok.. NOT hi-fi but good enough if you have a tin ear..

According to the HMM, the speakers are the same for all 14.1" T40/41/42s. The 15" has different speakers. My 15" T42 is loud enough for me to be satisfied playing games in a quiet room. To me it seems the same volume that I typically set my desktop surround speakers to when playing. The think what is missing relative to my desktop is bass, of course, but that's to be expected since I have a powered subwoofer.
On my deskop I usually play with the Windows volume set to 90% and the speaker volume (the volume dial physically on the speaker) at around 60%. This achieves about the same volume as the T42 with Windows and volume-button volumes at around 90%. I think it's pretty respectable for an ultraportable laptop. If need more than that, maybe you should just get a pair of portable powered speakers.
My fiance has a Toshiba 5205 Satellite with Harmon-Kardon speakers in it. Now that you do not need extra speakers for...but it's much much thicker and heavier.
