keyboard FRU 08K4986 / Part 08K4957

#1 Post by badVista » Fri Sep 14, 2007 12:05 pm

Hi,

I cannot find any informations for a keyboard (US FRU:08K4986 14.1" ) at the lenovo site. Does anyone have this kind of keyboard?
How does this keyboard compare to the NMB/Make in Thailand keyboard (FRU 08K5044). I'm looking for a good keyboard as a spare part.

Regards,
Markus

I believe that you will find your answer if searching (!) on this forum... doing that, e.g. these threads will instantly show up: T42 Thai (NMB), China (Alps) Keyboard Impressons and Which T42 keyboard is this? - Made in Thailand or China?.

NMB (Made in Thailand, if still available) is the preferred keyboard by many ThinkPad users, but other users are also happy with the keyboard made by CHICONY (note that the ALPS keyboard is only available for 15" ThinkPad's).

All details about keyboards etc. are found in the ThinkPad Computer Hardware Maintenance Manual February (T40/p,T41/p,T42/p) - 2006. You forgot to mention what ThinkPad you have (T42?), but if you turn to Lenovo's "Parts Information" page and enter your model number, you'll find all part numbers and movies (see the "Movie matrices - Notebooks") etc. showing how to replace your keyboard. Also, you may want to visit the Lenovo Service parts list index - ThinkPad .

Always: You have the free option of Searching in this outstanding forum (and on your own!) before asking...!! :-)

Best regards,

Johan

I had that keyboard on my previous T42. The best I could determine, it was likely a Chicony, although I never verified this.

My current 14.1" T42 apparently has the NMB keyboard. To be honest, I preferred the other. I find my fingertips catching under the keys at times with the NMB keyboard. I am afraid one of these days I am going to pop one of the keys off. David Spalding made reference to this happening with his Chicony keyboard when I had the 08K4986 keyboard, and I couldn't understand how this could happen. But now that I have the NMB keyboard, I understand what he was talking about.
