There will be a third 14.1" UXGA T series in the world very soon. I just sold an extra 14.1" UXGA screen to forum member doylnea who will try to install it on his T41.

I haven't measured it but it looks about as bright as the T series SXGA+ screen.

I'm just wondering, the screen in the pictures of the link above has got a samsung sticker on it.
I thought the dell screen was made by sharp.
Is the screen from the link from a different laptop than a dell?

I've read somewhere that 14.1" UXGA laptop panels were made by three companies and Sharp was only one of them. It's possible that Dell obtained these panels from all three.

Seems to be the 32 MB ATI MOBILITY RADEON 7500, according to this thread - see the post of Sun Jul 29, 2007 7:22 am.

In fact, according to clickpoint, 32 MB ATI MOBILITY RADEON 7500 is also capable of driving a 15.0" UXGA Flexview display on a T42!

I did install it and get it working quite well. I have about 10 photos to post (with commentary) as well, but I'm traveling this week, and won't be able to do so until early next week. I have a 2379DXU, which has a Radeon 7500 mobility video card.

However, here's a teaser pic:

You can make out the resolution, and T41 in the lower right corner if you squint.

Congrats on getting it running! I hope you don't mind the glue residue on the screen. I actually didn't mind that; it's the pressure marks that bothered me a little.

You people are making it really hard for me to decide if i want a 15 inch QXGA or a 14 inch UXGA. Which one to get first, that is :D .

Is it something that you're going to carry around? Then get the 14.1" UXGA first.

The glue residue will come off if you use a wet-wipe 50%-70% IPA (Isopropyl alcohol).
Now: T60 2613-EKU | T23 2647-9NU | 600X 2645-9FU | HP 100LX
Past: X31 2673-Y13 | T41 2374-3HU | T22 2647-AEU

I tried that already. Acetone might work better, but it would probably also damage the screen.

Careful with Acetone. It's real quick to melt plastic and petroleum based materials. I wouldn't use it anywhere near a Thinkpad.

Try Naptha first. Much more mild and won't screw up plastic.

I bought a Dell Inspiron 4100 with 14.1" UXGA, kept the LCD panel and sold the rest of the unit for parts. The inverter and cable came from one of my R50p's, so I didn't have to buy them separately.

I found a local dealer who sells the Sharp 14" UXGA LCDs.

It would be great if you could post the part numbers for these (panel, inverter & cable) that were not standard to your laptop when you have a chance. That way I can ensure that these will all work when they fall in place.

Thanks. Not long after I got it running using the 91P6858 T series cable, and stock 2379DKU inverter:
http://img340.imageshack.us/img340/723/ ... iumvw6.jpg

I closed it up and found a giant bulge:
http://img340.imageshack.us/img340/3839 ... iumhw7.jpg
http://img516.imageshack.us/img516/1352 ... iumny8.jpg
http://img186.imageshack.us/img186/7269 ... iumux2.jpg

which is caused by this: (91P6858 on the left, stock on the right. I didn't have the courage to remove the foam from the cable)
http://img340.imageshack.us/img340/2777 ... iumvn5.jpg

The other problem was that the replacement LCD cable was longer, and required some folding to fit under the LCD panel - it's not neat by any means:
http://img340.imageshack.us/img340/8981 ... iumcc6.jpg
http://img507.imageshack.us/img507/8561 ... iummf6.jpg

However, I did power the T41 up, and had these pretty images to look at:
http://img340.imageshack.us/img340/3227 ... iumso4.jpg
http://img186.imageshack.us/img186/9821 ... iumvy5.jpg
http://img530.imageshack.us/img530/5776 ... iumif6.jpg

In the end, the mar on the screen made me remove the UXGA and reinstall the original XGA panel. The mar is not glue or adhesive, it's a scratch in the coating on the screen:
http://img340.imageshack.us/img340/8252 ... iumja1.jpg

No amount of acetone will even it out. For now I'll hang on to both the screen and cable and see if I can find a way to have the screen recoated. It was, however, a fun project.

I might have removed that foam but am not sure. I removed and filed down many things to get the cable and inverter to fit.

Did you have to buy any of these or they were part of your laptop & lcd from before hand?

Did you have to buy anything besides the LCD from pianowizard?

I am going to do a similar thing on my T43 XGA w Intel 910 Video. What do you think I would need to order besides the LCD?

crashnburn, you will definitely need to get a UXGA cable because yours only works with XGA panels. Your current inverter might work but to be safe, I suggest that you replace it with one designed for UXGA.

Pianowizard
3) a 15.0" UXGA Flexview cable with part numbers 91P6836 and 91P6824; it's the same one that came with the 15.0" UXGA R50p and that I have for sale here.
91P6836 - UXGA Cable - R50
91P6824 - UXGA Inverter - ??

From Ebay it seems they are one and the same? Do both these numbers corresspond only to the Cable?

Doylnea
Thanks. Not long after I got it running using the 91P6858 T series cable, and stock 2379DKU inverter:
91P6858 T series cable - IBM T41/p T42/p t43/p LCD CABLE
2379DKU inverter - ?? Model?

The above is what I've been able to figure out which I'd think is inaccurate.

I'd appreciate if you could put down the following more clearly for both - YOUR CABLE & INVERTER.

- IBM FRU - e.g. IBM specific
- Part Numbers - e.g. Sharp or other manufacturer specific
- Source - Exisiting Laptop 14 / 15" R50p / T42p / Model 2379DKU etc.
- Originally supporting an LCD of Resolution..???
- If Cable or Inverter bought from outside - What did the specs say about what models if supported? e.g. Some ads on ebay specify a range of laptops they support.. e.g. 91P6858 T series cable - IBM T41/p T42/p t43/p LCD CABLE

The reason I ask the above of you is to figure out the COMMONALITY between the 2 separate modifications and maybe find other parts that also support the same CRITERIA

PS: One question - Will not the LCD come with some "CABLE" / INVERTER attached to it? Will that have to be replaced?

A little more insight on the cable & inverter and what they are would be appreciated. I am very close to buying and doing this mod ASAP.

All help highly appreciated.

Doylnea - You have posted 2379DKU and at one time 2379DXU with Radeon 7500. I am a little confused as to the model of laptop and specs of your machine.

I'd really appreciate it if you could post the following:
T4x model number & Detailed Specs
Your Video Card (Radeon)
Inverter Part number (If you can find it)

So, thanks to Pianowizard I found these links.

15 inch LCD service parts - ThinkPad T43/p

15 inch LCD service parts - ThinkPad T60, T60p (1951, 1952, 1953, 1954, 1955, 1956, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2613, 2623, 2637)

Now I am wondering if cross Series T4x v/s T6x Video Cables and Inverters would be compatible for the relevant SXGA+ & UXGA screens? Any thoughts?

Has the CPU to video to LCD technology changed a lot?
Are the ports / plugs / pins / cables different?
