Problem with T42p USB ports
Problem with T42p USB ports
Hi, I am the owner of a new T42 USB 2373GVU. Great computer, however yesterday while using it, the computer unexpectedly went dead. I mean totally dead, unresponsive to everything. I unplugged the battery then plugged it back in, and then it started up fine. The computer seems to work fine, except that the USB ports no longer recognize when I plug in a USB device. Did they get fried somehow? Is this a software problem? Help!
it could be that one of the prongs inside one of the usb ports is bent or the plastic tab inside is shorn off (apparently a qc issue) that means one solution, it'll be solved via airborne and a systemboard swap. btw, insist on a new motherboard if you want to avoid needless futzing -- additonal airborne round trips and diagnostics because the "reconditioned" one (that's right, don't look so shocked) causes blue screen of death errors! good grief.
Gawd...Apple's quality control must be non-existent. I have a friend who deals with Mac hardware at work and they have craptacular warranties and I have never seen so many failures of various parts in my life. Even the Dells (which aren't exactly stellar computers imho) in his department do far far better in terms of being reliable. It's really sad to pay that much for Apple stuff and have them be such pieces of junk in terms of quality.

Motherboard Failure
Hi all!
I own a 2373Q1G and I had the same problems described...
in the end IBM replace the entire motherboard (there was a part that was burned...)
It's not the first one I have heard to have this kind of problems.
I have an On-Site warranty and I've seen the motherboard swith... there are so many screws that you can't immagine and the works take two or three hours!
IBM didn't tell me what happens and I hope it's not a problem related to some USB devices (I used only a PocketPc and an optical mouse...)
Call for warranty, but I think a motherboard replacement will be done!
Bye Bye
Carlo

WHAT THE H...
What the hell,
it has passed some hours from my latest post and I thought "Oh, fortunately it's over and my little t42p is working perfectly now!"
...AND THEN?
My computer freezes again and turn off in a while, doesn't start immediately (Remove battery, bla bla bla) and where my USB goes?
TO HELL! (Sorry men, I'm a little [censored] off... twice in two weeks seems too much)
Analyzing the things (a MOS was popped up the last time) it's like the system board has not been well configured for the "backward" currents (sorry guy, my english sucks... I know) and some components send the whole motherboard in short circuit and KABOOM!
Well, I'll wait some news from IBM Italy!
Sorry for the unlucky guys like me!
