Multi-Burner Ultrabay Slim
Multi-Burner Ultrabay Slim
Hi,
I have T41P and I just purchased a Multi-Burner Ultrabay Slim Drive from IBM service channel (It cost more but ordering it through IBM sale would have taken 2 months!).
Since I purchased it from service there is no CD with the Multi-Burner. I do not care about OME softwares but is there a Driver update for the Burner. I have checked IBM site and can not find any. The problem I have is sometimes during boot up the computer looks for for the CDRW before it continues with boot up. The IBM service tells me there is no driver installation for this Multi-Burner Ultrabay Slim. They tell me it is plug-play. They are willing to take it from me and give me my money back. But I like the DVD burner so can somebody tell me if there is a driver update for this unite or not and if there is where can I find it.
Thanks
Sepehr

Could it be that you change the boot order in the bios, i.e. first booting from CD/DVD drive and then hard disk? Then of course, the system will first check the CD/DVD drive before it boots from the hard disk.

Are you sure its random when it tries to boot from the multiburner? Or could it be when you have disk in it?

No it does not try to boot from the multi-burner. It boots normally after the clock comes up the hard disk stops, its just like its looking for something after about 10 seconds it continues with the boot up. Now this happened a lot when I first installed the multi-burner .Now after a day it has not done yet. So let see what happens tomorrow.
Panasonic DVD-RAM software
csv96 wrote:Yes, that is correct. No additional driver software is necessary. There really haven't been any optical drive "drivers" since Windows 9x.
Well that may be true, but since winXP or 2K doesn't have native DVD-RAM support, Panasonic/M a t s u s h i t a ship drivers for this ability.
It allows you to toggle between the DVD-RAM driver and the native XP CDR driver/burning software. (as they can't both be loaded similtaneously apparently)
I got the disk with a 815B burner, but found it works also on my 825B's, 811B and therefore assume it would work on the 812 slim model as well.
You may be able to obtain it from the Panny site, or else I could zip it and make it available if requested.

Actually, Windows XP does have native DVD-RAM support (it's one of the feature messages that is displayed during a Windows XP installation). As long as the "Enable CD recording on this drive" option is deselected in the Recording options of the properties menu, read/write to DVD-RAM as a fixed disk is a built-in function. All my Multi-Burners have worked out of the box without any additional software or drivers.

Ok thanks for the XP correction,csv96 wrote:Actually, Windows XP does have native DVD-RAM support (it's one of the feature messages that is displayed during a Windows XP installation). the Panasonic disk has 2k and 98 drivers that may be useful....
