2373-3UU for $2200
2373-3UU for $2200
Hey there. I saw from the other thread that many were interested in the 2373-3UU. Just to refresh your memory here are the specs on that notebook.
Intel Pentium M Processor 735 1.70GHz
512MB RAM
14.1" SXGA+
ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9600 64MB
40GB 5400RPM
CD-RW/DVD-ROM Combo
IBM 11a/b/g Wi-Fi wireless
Bluetooth
6 Cell Battery
3 year warranty
I emailed Bill for a price for a group of people to order. He quoted $2200 including UPS groung shipping in the USA. The order would need at least 7 interested and will have to be fully prepaid.
The list price on this laptop is $2,659.00 and the price on Bill's page is $2393 so this would be a pretty good discount. Lets see if we can get 7 people together to get this order.

I am going to go with the 2373-3UU and the $2200 price from Bill sounds very nice. But one issue I have is the credibility of ordering it from Bill. From all the threads I have heard nothing but good things about Bill, and there seems to be a lot of people that order from him, but how can he offer these discounts? Is he an authorized seller? Nothing against Bill, but how do I know that I won't get screwed? I'm not saying that he will, i'm just cautious.
Bill (yea, another Bill)
Bill (yea, another Bill)
The more he orders the bigger discount he gets. Moreover he has pretty good connections here and there. He can also check the display for dead and stuck pixels before you get it and send back for a replacament (if you wish so), so you don't have to deal with it. And if you get screwed by Bill, I will eat my TrackPoint cap collection in front of you.

Bill is an authorized IBM reseller and has been around since before there was dirt. I first ran across him in IBM's ThinkPad forum on CompuServe, and that closed in late 1998. Bill's first forum was already up and running before the CompuServe forum closed (and, yes, I was whining about the slow web access to Bill's forum then, too). Digging through my e-mail archives, it looks like the first e-mails Bill and I exchanged were in November 1996 when I asked him some questions about upgrading memory in a 755CE. I think that if you Google him you won't find anything bad about him.

Of course you will still get the 3 year warranty. The serial number of your ThinkPad will be registered in IBM's database, so whenever there is a problem with your TP, they just look up the serial number. You can also check your warranty status online, and upgrade it.
Let me quote James' earlier post: "Bill's an IBM approved reseller and buying from him is like buying a car at your local dealer. Buying from IBM directly is like having to go to Detroit to pick up your new car at the factory!
Bill offers the unit you want for less than IBM wants for it directly from them, where's the downside?"

IBM has probably the best warranty coverage and warranty service of any notebook manufacturer. When you call for warranty service (and I've done this a dozen times), all they ask for is your serial number. Doesn't matter where or when you bought it. Doesn't matter how many previous owners the laptop has had (which is great for those buying used Thinkpads) as long as its 3 years old from time of manufacture. Their customer service and tech support is excellent. I never have to wait more than a minute to get someone on the line. No endless phone trees like you get when you try to call Dell. For user-replaceable parts (such as a defective CD-ROM drive), they OVERNIGHT the part to you! Even if you have to send your laptop in, the repair service is free and it literally takes just 3 business days before the laptop is back in your hands.

not really wanting to swap drives..
better for you to just buy a 60gig or 80gig drive..
i just noticed all the nice things said about me..
thank you..!
here are the terms:
you must pay in full with your order..
i estimate ibm will ship to me WITHIN 25 ibm days after placing the order..
i will then ship to you..
shipping charges are as follows:
UPS ground in the continental (ex. alaska) USA = $24, two day = $45, overnight = $65..
payment by bank wire (add $10) or (depending on your location) direct deposit to one of my banks..
i also take checks, personal or cashiers..
within the first 2 weeks, i will exchange or refund if you are not happy but there will be a 10% restock fee..
for an exchange, you pay all shipping charges..
add $100 for a pixel check and test prior to shipping..
i THINK thats about it..
the reason for the pay in advance thing is i ate up all my buying power with the last deal on the 3VU and those have not yet shipped..
questions..? want to participate..?
send me an email..
email if there are any questions..

I'm in
have you guys checked out 2378-DXU? IBM list price is at $2,429.00. Correct me if I'm wrong but it has a 15" screen, and a 60G 7200RPM hard drive. Unfortunately the warranty is only for one year. In any case, if Bill can give us a deal on this, would you guys reconsider? Just a thought...the 23733UU is close enough though, so I really wouldn't mind. Let me know if this pushes through.....like most of you, my only hesitation is the payment method. It takes a lot of trust to do something like this
The 2378-DXU experienced the "price drop". It is only $2299 now, and with the 3yr warranty (2379-DXU) it is $2399

... am thinking of RMA'ing my 2378-EXU when it arrives (especially if Bill offers the DXU).
