Temp Monitor on the Taskbar
Temp Monitor on the Taskbar
I use Mobile Meter now. Works great. But was just wondering if anyone knows of a monitor that loads cpu temp on the taskbar.
Thanks for any links.

Thank you both for reminding me of these options. I use both on my desktop and they work great, too. However, I could not get latest version of MBM to configure for an IBM laptop. And just reported 0 deg.
Speedfan worked a little better. It reads the HD temp fine (based on Mobile Meter) But reports bogus temps (21C while MM reports 37) which are unchanging, too.
It doesn't appear that either program is designed for T42. Mobile Meter works great ... just wish it would show CPU temp on taskbar. But it is good enough the way it is.

That's more of a question for the CPU folks. The temp reported by any of those tools is the core CPU temp. You can check Intel.com for their report of safe temperatures. Normally their operation ceiling is around 90 - 95 deg C, although the TP will power-off before it lets you get that hot. (Some Intel CPU's are rated higher, though)jl209 wrote:What are the safe processor and HD temps for a T42?
The key for T42 isn't how hot the CPU gets... that's the same for all Dell, Compaq, etc that uses Intel. The key is how quickly & efficiently the system can dissipate that heat.
HDD's are really a turkey shoot. There's dozens of different vendors & brands, each with different operational specs. But HDD's overheating really shouldn't be a problem. If your drive is cooking then honestly you should probably invest in additional RAM, since your drive is being overworked.
