Re: laptop battery
Heat damages Li-Ion batteries. When you leave them in a notebook, the heat from adjacent devices will reduce the life of your battery.wetnine wrote:Is it better for not hooking up the battery to the laptop when using the AC power? Would this make the battery life longer?

It's best to recharge the battery only when it's less than 80% charged and to leave it in the notebook until it is fully recharged. Then take it out and store it in a cool place.

Don't store a fully charged battery
The batteryuniversity site recommends against storing a fully charged battery. To optimize Li-ion battery's life, they recommend storing at a 40% charge.
There are two schools of thought about batteries:
1) Save the battery at all costs - it's expensive!
and
2) Oh no, the power went off just as I finished this project that's due in the morning, and I didn't save it! Wish I'd had the battery in...
Only you can decide which is more important to you.
