Contact IBM. Your T41P should work.

Hi All,

Leon says this is "One of IBM's best utilities yet. Get it!" I can't believe it, all the available versions that were returned are older than the ones I have in my system! Wierd!

Cheers,
Ranjit

Are you sure that it connected and downloaded? It sounds like it's reporting versions of old install files on your system.

I have all the original IBM software still in C:\Drivers (I segregated it into C:\Drivers\Preload). I have all the installs I did still in C:\Drivers\WinXPP. I can see Software Installer checking all those locations plus IBMTOOLS and so on. It still found only the newest software and then the even newer Intel wired NIC driver. It did it all properly so far as I can see. This is the best Software Installer to date, and it is vastly superior to Update Connector (which I have unistalled and abandoned). ... JD Hurst

I LOVE this new utility. It WORKS! I used in last night and it listed all the updates for my machine along with the current installed drivers. I was given a chance to select which ones I wanted to d/l and later, to install. I skipped the Bios 3.14 update since the "fan on" issue may be related to this latest update. 3.13 works great for me and I am of the old school...if it ain't broken...

Hi All,

Why is the "Software Intaller" not working for me then? Is there something I am not doing right?

So far, I have done the following to download new drivers and updates from the IBM site:

1. In a folder named "IBM", I have a number of sub-folders for different categories;
2. I download the appropriate file into one of these sub-folders, and create another folder named "Extracted Files" where I extract the contents.
3. I then open the "Extracted Files" folder and install the application.

This method has worked fine for me and my system is fully updated. Please let me know what I should do to make "Software Instaler" work properly.

Cheers and best regards,
Ranjit

I dunno... I decided to upgrade all my T23 drivers today, but 3 failed to install, each for a different reason:

1. DVDExpress wanted the drive installed (I had a CD-RW at the time), but this I can undestand,
2. SpeedStep wouldn't install, even manually, saying my operating system is wrong (Win2K)
3. The Director had to be installed manually.

So, the record wasn't pefect, especially that I still don't know what's up with the SpeedStep problem (my old version workd fine).

I ran this program and it found LOTS of updates for my T30.

However, after I installed all the updates, I was absolutely unable to get an IP from my Linksys 802.11b router. I discovered the solution, for some weird reason, was to log into the router and tell it to revert to factory settings and that solved the problem.

Dont really know why though.

Hi All,

Is the problem that I am having with the "Software Installer" related to the "Intel Chipset Support II"? I see from the list that this program has a "Mandatory" importance. Also, from the summary of changes, I see that version 1.02 has a support for the Software Installer. Please advise.

Cheers,
Ranjit

Screen switches black for a second during Login

#16 Post by greg0815 » Sat Mar 19, 2005 3:29 am

I don't know, if there's really a correlation between the latest updates and my problem: I've installed the updatetool and it found lots of necessary driver updates. Everything worked fine. But now my screen seems to switch between different modes after booting or logging in: after swiping my finger over the reader or typing my password the TP starts to boot, then the screen gets black for a second and then gets normal again. Not really a problem but an annoying behavior.

Anybody else noticed this change?

This service worked extremely well for me, other than creating problems with my bluetooth setup (see other post) and installing the latest ATI video drivers (I am running Omegas and forgot to uncheck the box). Overall this is fantastic software. Good job IBM. -kj-

No, you do not need to uninstall the old version:

So then from now on, after a fresh install of windows, we install this and our ethernet driver and we're set? Load this up, let it DL everything, install then be done with it?

I hope thats true!

invalid machine type

#26 Post by Stillstuck » Sun Mar 20, 2005 8:10 am

I'm getting the same "Invalid machine type" with my A21p 2629-RRE
Also tried in Safe Mode, and get "This program is only for IBM System"

Possibly related: When I try to "Detect My System" on IBM's site, it comes back with: "Information for '-' was not found".

Leon mentioned contacting IBM.
I've had no luck finding any IBM support on this yet.
Anyone here have any good leads on IBM support #'s, emails, etc.

While this response is directed to Stillstuck in this particular instance, I'd like to point out that this type of question is precisely why we ask that everyone post their location in their profile.

Without knowing where Stillstuck is located, it's difficult to answer his question as to the best telephone number for him/her to use to contact IBM.

Try making a directory "Drivers" and ensure that the update programs knows to look there for the updates. The program asks where to look for updates on your HD, make sure the new directory is listed.
