battery on T42 not charging correctly

I just got my thinkpad T42 2379DXU a week ago, and today I noticed that the battery won't charge right. It seems that it will only charge until around 85 percent, then stop charging. I pulled the battery out and put it back in, and it would continue to charge until 100 percent. If I start running it on battery power again, and then plug the power cord back in when its at 95 percent, it wont charge no matter what I do. Whats up? Is it a faulty battery, or is the laptop perhaps to blame? I dot want to send my entire laptop back and would rather just send the battery back instead. what are your opinions on the matter?

There are settings in the new version of battery maximiser wizard that may be causing this. Right click on the battery icon in the taskbar and choose the 'improve battery health' option from the menu - set the start chargina nd stop charging to defaults - hopefully this may help

what version are you using I have the latest version of 1.36a
and I don't have this option.

Eriquesque, same here. I don't have such an option and am running the latest 1.36a.

cynic and eriqesque just to start/settings/control panel/thinkpad configuration...then click on the "power management" drop down menu and then click the button "battery Health" then click the next button "Improve battery health"

There may be a faster way to, but that is what he is reffering to. Oh and I am also running 1.36a

I can get to "power management" but there is no "battery health" under that menu. There is "battery information" which has a "battery health" under that, but it only gives you the status of the battery and tips.

Sorry I missed a menu

just go to start/settings/control panel/thinkpad configuration...then click on the drop down menu "power management" and click on "battery Information" on the drop down menu and then click the button "battery Health" then click the next button "Improve battery health"

Under that final menu I can set the battery charge thresholds

Well then it must not be an option on the t40
casue it is nowhere to be found

i found the option and I think it may have fixed the problem. I didnt realize that it was actuzlly a FEATURE for the thinkpad to not charge until it reaches a certain percentage of battery life. Thanks for all your help everyone.

"Improve Battery Health" is a new feature in T42's (also in X40's and R51's).

What exactly does it do? At the moment, my T40p doesn't recharge until the battery level drops below 95%. Does this feature allow you to adjust at what percentage to start the recharge?
