Editing posts not requiring wait.

#1 Post by tylerwylie » Sat Jan 19, 2008 12:50 am

There's a specified amount of time between when users can make posts, this also affects editing posts as well. Since it's kind of hard to "spam" the forums via the edit function is it possible to remove the waiting period for edits? Or is phpBB not built that way.

It's something that I run into from time to time as well. I try to proofread my posts before hitting the 'submit' button, but once in awhile I find an error after posting and then I bump into the timeout. It appears that this same delay time also affects consecutive searches. You don't get any 'error' or 'you cannot.." message. Instead, there's just a blank area under the "Information" header. You may want to try searching around the phpBB.com site. However, even if there's a mod to invoke separate timeouts for posting, editing and searching, there's no guarantee that it will be implemented. Bill has the same philosophy concerning adding phpBB mods that I have about performing BIOS updates; if it ain't broke, don't fix it :) .

Bill has the time limits set the way they are deliberately.

If I have to edit immediately, I do so, and submit. If it says "...not yet", I wait 20-30 seconds and submit again. Usually works.

i can shorten the time but the time is the same for new posts and edits..
i run into it, too..

it is just how phpBB ver. 2 works..
phpBB 3 might have some enhancements but since upgrading would require that i re-write the anti-spambot code i am not keen on doing that..
there is also the risk of data loss, small as it is, that i think about..

for now, it works well..:)
