Marking All Forums As Having Been Read

#1 Post by bobstockler » Sun Jan 27, 2008 3:25 pm

Whenever I make a post, all forums get marked as having been read.

Is there something in my set-up that causes this, or is it just the way
the forums work?

That seems odd. It's not happening to me, and I don't see anything in your profile that would cause that. Are you logging out or getting timed out between posts? That would cause everything to be marked read.

Is anyone else having the problem?

I had something similar happen twice while using my wife's laptop. I was on a wireless router that kept dropping the signal. Everytime it reconnected, the threads were all marked as read.

If one opens a new tab in IE7, goes to the tab, and closes the tab, then all the posts in the first tab get marked as "read". I have learned (from experience) that if one opens a new tab in IE7, then leave it and any other new tabs open until done with the original tab. I think it is a forum software problem. ... JDH

I must lead a charmed life 'cause that's not happening to me either! ;-)

John, I do that very often but never experienced such problem.
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.

I should be clear that, when I close an IE7 tab, the posts in the original tab actually disappear. When I then select "View new posts", there aren't any. This was a discussion point when IE7 first came out and nothing has changed for me (and on two machines). I don't know why I (and possibly others) see this behaviour and why you, Nonny and others do not. ... JDH
