"Last edited by" inconsistency on edited posts

#1 Post by PH0ENIX » Mon Jan 28, 2008 3:09 am

I didn't see this issue discussed before, but I noticed that some edited posts will show the "last edited by" notification while others don't. For example, here is an example of an edited post that shows the "last edited by" message, while this edited post does not have any indication (other than what I put into the post) that it was edited.

After some digging around on the phpBB support forums, I found out that the "last edited by" notification will only appear for posts which have been replied to. To resolve this inconsistency, you can either eliminate the "last edited by" message or apply a hack to always show it for edited posts.

Personally, if given the choice I would rather do away with the "last edited by" notification because I tend to go back to my posts a lot and edit them for the sake of grammar and clarity. (In the example I gave above, I was editing my post to try to remove a weird line break issue where my browser was displaying two line breaks in XGA resolution but not in other resolutions.)

Thanks for responding, Bill. I understand this isn't a high priority item, and I really just wanted to report the strange behavior so that other users don't get confused by it as I initially was.

These forums are a great resource, and I appreciate your efforts in hosting and maintaining them.
