Recover deleted PMs?

#1 Post by Troels » Fri Nov 14, 2008 10:56 am

Hello,

I've been stupid enough not to backup some of my very important PMs. The PMs contains important information that was requested by another user.
All of them are unfortunately not in my Saved messages folder.
Is there any kind of backup done to the forums, so that the deleted messages from a specific sender could be recovered? :(

The information is highly important, it will act as a kind of "proof of purchase".

Thanks for ANY response.

Not any that are suitable for that purpose, as far as I am aware.

Cheers,

Here's some words of warning about PMs:

- there's a finite amount of storage individually assigned to the Personal Message folders (Inbox, Sentbox, Savebox)
- each of these folders has a percentage bar showing the amount of space being used
- once that finite space in a folder is exceeded, the older message(s) are automatically purged to make room for the newest message(s)
- if the Inbox or Sentbox folders are nearly full, you can move some of the messages to your Savebox folder
- as Bill indicated, there's not much in the way of retrieving messages from forum backups
- if you need to retain messages, cut-and-paste them into a text file and save them on your computer

What I try to do is keep my Inbox and Sentbox folders about 50% empty by moving old messages to the Savebox. Once the Savebox folder is 80-85% full I cut-and-paste the messages in chronological order into a Notepad file.

Thanks, the replies from both of you are much appreciated.

I guess i should have copied and pasted the messages into a text document - oh well, might turn out i learned it the hard way, so i'd better do some manual copy-paste from now on.

Did you possibly "quote" a message in a reply to the person, and have it in your Sent box?

I usually use quoting in PMs yes, but i've emptied my sent folder once since then, since it was full. Otherwise a good suggestion.
