Pictures in signatures??
Pictures in signatures??
Would we be allowed to use very small pictures in our signatures?? Was just wondering. Thanks!

Why bother, the place looks so nice without them.

While I'm not too interested in avatars and images as signatures, I have been curious to know the reason why they're not allowed here. Is it a bandwidth thing or just the way it would look, or...? Just curious.

Re: Pictures in signatures??
Both, really. When the forum first moved from a text-based format to phpBB, many members were still on dial-up. Downloading unexpected large images was not practical, so we instituted the rule that there had to be a warning message in the subject line and that images had to be <50k.
While the world has moved on and few of us are on slow dial-up any more, I personally don't see a reason to change that policy. A lot of images scattered through a thread overshadow the discussion, and as more and more of us access via a mobile device with download caps, a simple link is more useful.

As a mild example of how signature images can obscure the content: http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=726506
It's not the worst I've seen in online forums; just one I ran into the other day while looking for some information.

Re: Pictures in signatures??
That makes great sense and I agree wholeheartedly with your point about mobile devices as I frequently browse this forum from my Android phone - something I hadn't considered.
Thanks!

Re: Pictures in signatures??
Oh dear... I see what you mean. That BMW E46 "Fanatics" forum does look rather messy with all those large images in the user's signatures. I can now see why we don't allow them on here!rkawakami wrote:As a mild example of how signature images can obscure the content: http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=726506
