IBM PS/2 P70

#1 Post by karotlopj » Sun Aug 06, 2023 4:31 am

Does anyone have an IBM PS/2 P70?

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/ ... rtable.jpg

The most expensive computer I ever bought.

Unfortunately it no longer boots up. When I power on the orange screen comes on, but it doesn't beep, no bios screen or anything.

In the past it would burst into life if i firmly slapped the sides before powering on, but that no longer works.

Any suggestions?

Is there an HMM for this system?

I've got one of these flapping about on the floor of my workshop. I'm just trying to summon up the energy to take a look at it....

Probably needs a complete recap; I've recapped all of my PS/2 machines (yeah, it takes awhile lol).

If a slap had previously worked, I'd check the ROM BIOS and see if perhaps it's creeped out of the socket a little and needs to be re-seated (since the BIOS also doesn't come up).

I'd also grab a multimeter and check the voltages going to the mainboard. (Also check Power_Good as well, as if that is not high, the motherboard will not come out of reset.)
