IBM Netvista all in one new hard drive running at DMA mode 2

#1 Post by fefrie » Wed Apr 04, 2007 12:39 am

I've got a netvista where I installed a new drive. and for the longest time it was runing at dma mode 4 which is 66mb/sec. Not fast, but adequate.

However, I notice now that when booting up and also when checking the hardware properties, it's running as a dma mode 2 16mb sec. The drive it self is ata100 reverse compatible.

It's been posted before that there is not much difference betwen ata66 and ata 100, but I would think that there is a difference between ata16 and ata66.

For some reason, I can't get onto the bios when I start up the screen. Usually you press f1 to get to configuration setup, but it's hard to.

In all the time I've owned this thing, I"ve only been able to get to the bios once. Not that I think that it would matter, as the recognition of the drive happens on booting up, and not in the bios.

Am I missing something here? Any help would be nice.

My Netvista serial number is 6643 22u of the top of my head should that help at all.

Maybe you need to hit the F1 key earlier in the boot sequence or actually hold it down. I know with the "vintage" thinkpads, you hold it down when you turn the power on, and keep holding it until you enter the BIOS setup.

I can't imagine why the drive has started running in DMA 2. Did anything else change (or get changed) at the same time?
