APS sensor heats up faster than other sensors, accurate?

#1 Post by K. Eng » Tue Dec 13, 2005 9:24 pm

I noticed that the APS sensor on my T40 heats up easily and does not cool down easily. For example, my CPU was at 34C and APS was at 37C. I switched to manual mode, and my CPU went up to 37C, while APS shot up to 45C.

I wonder why this sensor reports high temperatures so quickly. The CPU at 600 MHz and stock voltage I would think should heat up more quickly. I've looked at the T43 diagram provided by Shimodax and I don't see any components aside from the CPU that should generate a lot of heat near APS.

WiFi seems to exacerbate it.

Any ideas on what causes this, or what a safe max temp for APS is?

Ok an update! Since I posted I have had the fan at max power. CPU fell back down to 35C but APS is still at 41C. Hmm.. :?

Isn't the APS Sensor near the hard disk? If so, that area doesn't get cooled down as quickly as others, even though there is a vent near it. :)

That's what I thought too, except that the T40 has no APS. According to the T43 diagram included in the latest version of fancontrol, the APS sensor is near the CPU heatsink/fan assembly. This leaves me somewhat confused. :?

My T40 APS sensor is also almost always the hottest. I suspect that location of "APS" sensor in T40 is different from that in T43. My guess is that in T40 the APS sensor is somewhere below touchpad (either under WIFI card or even on the other side of mobo. After all, bottom under touchpad is almost always the T40's hottest place.
