Fan on ThinkPad R40

#1 Post by Nicalaine » Sun Jun 11, 2006 11:17 am

The fan on my laptop makes a buzzing noise about every 10 seconds that is driving me crazy. I cleaned the dust out of it after getting a fan error message and it is cooling, but the noise is quite annoying.

Welcome to the Thinkpad Forums :)

Are you getting a Fan Error on boot anymore? If so, I would take a look at that fan again and see what it is doing; the bearings could be going.

Does the Thinkpad Fan Control Utility affect the noise at all or is it a constant 10 second interval?

I don't know if the fan control utility affects it or not...how do I find that out?

I took my keyboard out & found out I had a piece of the plastic cover on wrong that was rubbing on the fan....no more noise...
Thank you for trying to help such a dummy!
