Programmatically test for fan pulsing in new laptops?
Hello. Is it possible for a Windows or other program to test for the fan pulsing problem in the newer laptops? Can such a program read actual fan speed or just the fan speed the EC firmware reports? Can such a program read fan speed frequently enough and with enough resolution?

Not possible from the utilities I have seen. All reported fan pulsing over the years has been reported anecdotally via individual noise perception.

I don't know how to interpret that first sentence. Are you saying you've seen developers attempt it but run into a limitation that prevents it, or are you just saying that you haven't seen any programs that can do it?

Thanks for the clarification. Not that I understand exactly what causes the pulsing, but I can't help but wonder if it is possible to log fan speed and see the behavior. I didn't look at the tp4xfancontrol source too closely as it doesn't appear current, but if I remember correctly update interval appeared artificially constrained to a multiple of 1000 ms.
