Games on the T23

#1 Post by Way » Thu Nov 10, 2005 1:30 am

Thought I might start this thread for those interested in old school gaming on the T23.My preferences are for 1st person shooters,so if anyone has any suggestions on what will run and recommended settings it would be helpful.

Anything more *cough ahem* "current ", like serious sam or red faction?I recognise one of the limiting factors is the lack of "t&l"shading and 16megs o video rama.I am also open to non first person shooters such as driving games.Anything out there as fun as Burnout ?Probably not but ...

Am sorry, but you need a DirectX8.1/9.0c compatible card to play those. Look for DirectX 7.0 games then.... like Need for speed III, Ages of empire, unreal tournament 1999, etc

S3 drivers sux big time, try to run Fifa 2002 WC on your T23 and laugh

I was under the impression that the S3Graphics Supersavage/IXC 1014 was compatable with directx v8.1.

Serious Sam The Second Encounter runs fine with a bit of tweaking. Grim Fandango works better. I think Starcraft ought to work fine, though I'm not sure how well you could play with a trackpoint.

Civilization IV would run if there were not these 2 graphic errors.

1. No text would be shown in the whole game and menues. There are only white marks instead of the colums

2. Landscape is mostly black.... because of unsupportet T&L...

So the T23 has no chance for Civ IV while gameplay would have been smoothly...

I know that it isn't a T23, but I have been able to play Alien V. Predator II on a T21, without any problems or hesitation.

I thought you needed hardware acceleration support to play DX8.1 games. The S3 SavageIX-8meg shares yhe system memory in my T-20 and doesnt seem to have hardware acceleration.

8MB Savage and 16MB Supersavage both have hardware acceleration.

And the 16MB Supersavage has no shared memory.

8MB Savage i have not checked now, but I wonder....

Unreal Gold will also run perfectly!

I've been trying to tweak halo's config file for ages now to get it to work, it starts up and runs fine in safe mode but to start it normally it notices that the supersavage is an "unsupported" card and exits.

I can't seem to get it working with 3d analyzer, I've tried all sorts of combinations with force sw tnl and emulate hw tnl caps as well as other optoins. The only times the halo loading screen comes up are times when it crashes out with the "update your video driver" message. It really pisses me off when I get innacurate error messages.

I saw somewhere that halo is supposed to work with software t&l using VendorID: 4131 and DEVICE ID: 8704, but I get the same error message, just a different card listed. Maybe one of you guys can get it working.

you can get 3d-analyze here http://www.tommti-systems.com/start.html

I'd really appreciate getting FarCry or PainKiller to run on my T23. Got a AMD64/6800GT system I built last year, and it just gathers dust.
The original Myst doesnt run at all but Serious Sam runs real smooth on my T23.

Well, on the T20, the following first person shooters work very well, so I'd imagine they'd all work on a higher spec. laptop, too:

No-one Lives Forever,
Aliens vs Predator,
Half-Life,
Duke Nukem 3D,
Doom 1 and 2,
Quake 3,
Unreal Tournament,

Unreal Tournament, No-one Lives Forever, Duke Nukem 3D, Half-Life and Aliens vs Predator are all excellent games. UT, DN3D and HL all have freeware third part mods written for them, some of which are amazing (try the following Half-Life mods: USS Darkstar, They Hunger (all three parts), Azure Sheep and the commercial add-on Opposing Force (but I wouldn't bother buying Blue Shift, the only commercial add-on other than Opposing Force).

For Duke Nukem and the two Doom games, you might want to download the enhanced Windows-compatible front-ends (and if you are using Windows XP or 2000 then you probably have to, as DN and Doom 1 and 2 all need DOS to run). The Windows programs (such as Doomsday for Doom, and Jono (or something) for Duke Nukem) offer 3D hardare support, enhanced sound and control features and more!

Also, though it's not exactly a first person shooter, Deus Ex is brilliant. Or if you prefer realism, try Operation Flashpoint. Both of these games run on my T20 with no problems.

You guys were able to run half-life and cs on a t23? It wouldn't work for me. Do you need to do some configuartion? I loads and everything, but the frames per second is like 4-8 only. What video settings did you use?

Hi,

I tried to run a GTA3 on my T23 [1GHz, 256 RAM] and the result was quite good. The game runs smoothly in 640x480, with audio and music in MP3. Only some of sprites isn't showed propertly [fire, smoke etc.]. I tried 3D Analyze, but it gave no effect. Maybe someone has similiar problem and knows, how to fix it?
BTW, Heroes of Might and Magic 3 works perfectly on T23.

if you added a PCMCIA sound card to your laptop, would you suppose you might see an improvement in game playing?

I just installed all 9gigs of C&C The First Decade on my T23, they are older games so I didn't expect them to have any issues. They run nicely.
