T23 and 40 Gb Hitachi HDD

#1 Post by jocantaro » Mon Jan 09, 2006 4:09 am

Does anyone know if HTS548040M9AT00 is compatible with T23 (2648-2TG) ?

I have one of this HDD to replace my original broken disk, and although Hitachi web page says they are compatible, my Thinkpad can't see the new disk

Thanks

This drive should work. How are you trying to see it? Is this during Windows install?

There's no doubt the drive should work. I've got 40g 5k100 in all my T2x machines.

You might want to download and run the Hitachi Drive Fitness Test here http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/download.htm .

If the DFT can't see the drive, it's either defective or not properly installed (loose connection, jumpers not properly set, etc)

This model is a 40g 5k80, not a 5k100
There are no jumpers (I am installing it as a primary devide)
The problem is that my laptop can't see the hdd at startup
I've been looking for some information on IBM website and the there is only one document refering this model, but its related to T41 and R50 series

Thanks

What doesn't see it, the BIOS setup, a boot disk, another hard drive running Windows, etc? Your drive won't be "seen" by DOS or Windows until it's been partitioned and formatted. A poster in this thread indicates he was sent a 60gb 5K80 as a replacement from IBM for his T23 so there is little doubt your 40gb 5K80 "should" work. Have you updated your BIOS to the latest version?

I can state, with certainty (from experience), there is no doubt the 40gb 5k80 does work.

Please provide some more information along the line of the questions asked by chan_man and LtTPfan and we may be able to provide more assistance.

:?

After several tests, including a T42 attempt.... I am sure that the disk is definitively dead

Thanks a lot

Sorry to hear that. You can go here http://www.hitachigst.com/portal/site/e ... 6aac4f0a0/ to determine the warranty status of the drive and begin the RMA process.
