thinkpad T21 confusing cpu speed
thinkpad T21 confusing cpu speed
hello, and thank you for your time...
I have T21 with 256mb memory and 40 seagate 5400 RPM HD, and I upgrade the bios to 1.16 and currently using win xp sp2 no battery is connected Im using AC but when I look at directx and system properties 650mhz is display but when
I run CPU-ID I get 800mhz... because I change power scheme under screen saver - power. I put it to "Always On" only way I get full speed Im not even sure if Im getting fulll speed because under directx and system properties still says 650mhz even if on "Always On"... so I mess around with schemes I put on portable laptop I get 650mhz on CPU-ID.. so who's displaying the correct speed than? or theres something wrong with the laptop? I know speedstep plays role on this when I set it to run full speed on bios, should be saying 800mhz every where that displays CPU speed.

check what it says in your bios.
i believe that the bios settings affect your hardware more than your windows settings.

I believe that because the speedstep is there, it will still be read as 650MHz (800MHz less 150MHz). If you try using a program like MobileMeter, the figure might change if you begin working on something that requires more power. Otherwise, I think that the figure remains at 650MHz.
Just because you tell it to use full power, doesn't mean that it will. It will determine how much of the full CPU is required based on your usage. The lack of control kind of sucks, I know. This applies to the T21 that I am using right now, as well.

if you only knew how much headache I when through to get the bios flash...I finall almost gave up but I read somewhere about phlash and change fl1 and fl3 to bios.rom and platform.bin I bypass all the error I was being issue during the normal IBM bio flash but I took major risk thou I was almost crapping on my self if the [censored] fails lol.vailsy wrote:i'm having the same issue
still at least you got your updated BIOS installed... when i try it is say 'power management disabled' so i'm unable to proceed and am unable to install XP maybe as a consequence of that.. or my CPU, or something else...!
good luck!
thank you all for the replies...
