T22 HD upgrade

#1 Post by Rex » Sat Feb 25, 2006 3:28 pm

Hi there,

My T22 currently has a 20gb hd and I would like to upgrade it to something larger.

Will any 40gb, 2.5" hd that I buy from either eBay or A.N Other internet dealer fit the drive bay and work?

Additionally, my current hd has five partitions. The two important ones are C: (o/s) and D: (My Docs.) I also have an image of C: on cd's. If I can install a new 40gb hd, can I put my current image onto the new hd? This would mean that I get all my programs up and running with minimal hassle.

Grateful for any advice,

Many thanks

Rex

The T20 will take any ATA drive. It can take 12mm as well as the 9mm drives. The only thing you need to do is to take the cover off your old drive and put it on the new drive for it to fit into the slot. The cover is held on with 4 screws and two strips of double sided tape so you will have to pull some after you take off the screws.

As for copying your old drive, you can use Drive Image or Ghost or the Acronis software. You will need to get both drives hooked up to the machine to do this, the easiest way is to buy the 2nd drive tray made for the T20 that will allow you to out the new drive into the CD bay. These can be found on eBay.

ChanMan,

Many thanks. Have already had the drive out of my T20 to attempt to get another 2.5" hd formatted. Managed to do it so know how to remove the drive.

I'll check out eBay for Ultrabay drive unit.

No problem.. if all you need to do is to copy data off your old drive, you can use an external 2.5" drive enclosure.. I've seen some as cheap as $12.00. I have two of these each one with a 40gb and the other has an 80gb. Nice to have for backups..

Yeah!

I've got a 20gb that when I recently tried to format, all hell broke loose. Computer could see it but if I tried to copy data, received the message that the drive needed formatting. Got to 99% and another message says that W2k was unable to complete the operation.

So put it into my T20, booted from a W98 start-up disk, created the partition, formatted, put W98 onto it and all seems to be fine. Replaced it into the external caddie, deleted the W98 o/s and now have a 20 gb disk for back-up again.

Seems to have worked. That may be an easier option than replacing the T22 hd. Just buy a larger hd and put it into the caddie.
