T22 battery power loss while plugged in???

#1 Post by nrphotos » Mon Apr 03, 2006 11:19 pm

How on earth can my battery be at 100% when I turned it on this morning, got to 99% sometime early afternoon and now is at 98%?
Also, can anyone shed light on a battery's expected useage? battery miser said something about conservation from hours of use to days (re: hibernation). The most I've seen this newly rec'd T22's battery last is 1 hour playing a dvd... arggghhhhhh in searching for batteries came across a site that recharges the cells. Proports to give 4. something to a 2. something standard battery. Anyone know what language I am speaking (I have ADD and dont recall verbatim too much techie stuff) sorry
thanks for being here, nancy

I have noticed a similar behaviour starting in my t42, sometimes it will be plugged in all day and just show 99% or 98%. If you run the battery way down till it dies and recharge it it should show 100. There is a calabration tool in the battery software but I have no use for it because, like JDHurst has said "just use the thing and don't worry about it, it's a battery, use it get a new one later" I agree with him to not get to wrapped around the axle about the battery life and charge thresholds and all that.

There are lots of posts on batteries and maintenance here, try a search, also the battery university has a great tutorial on all sorts of batteries. :)

I just bought the refurbed laptop last week from tigerdirect. it has a short warranty so if it is an issue I want it replaced... hopefully.

This is my experience.

If I pull the plug out while on 100%, it'll drop steadily to 95% or whatever.

It will not charge back to 100%.

I have to actively discharge the unit to 5% and then recharge back to 100%.

My battery has had it.

A 7 y.o. battery... of course it's seen better days.

refurbed T22 tech support has been called

#5 Post by nrphotos » Tue Apr 04, 2006 9:44 am

I talked with Metro Business Systems cust support this morning. They buy these TPs off-lease from big business, refurb them and sold this batch thru TigerDirect.
I tell him my unit was plugged in & used all day yesterday. I accidently pulled the plug, battery dropped immediately to 95%, reinserted the plug and it wasn't recognized by my system as the power source. I shut down & left it plugged overnight w/batt meter at 93%. This morning orange batt light was on. I re-seat the plug, open the lid, press ON where the batt and HD lights blink once in response but wont boot. The tech said "sounds like the mobo; the a/c port is part of the mobo".
I can send it to metro bus sys for service or have tigerdirect ship another. I called Tiger who will be glad to send out another. They're going to bill me for it now and ship it while mine is in transit. I said NO! You will wait for mine to come in then do your accounting...

PS: Clue #1 - my TP never did a/c power up with the battery removed as I'd seen mentioned in this forum that it ought to. Thanks for your replies here people. Hope this helps someone else.
