Is the 512mb memory wall a function of the original software or a function of the hardware used in the computers. I ask because my Sony Vaio was limited to 512mb before I upgraded to XP. Once I upgraded the Sony I found that it was the Windows Software which was limited to only 512mb of RAM and that one of the upgrades in XP was to allow more than 512mb RAM management.
Thanks
Wes

Welcome to thinkpads.com!
The T20 and T22 are limited to 512MB by the chipset. As far as I know, there's no software or firmware "upgrade" available to break that ceiling.
The T23 can go up to 1GB but requires PC133 modules. Perhaps I can trade you one of my T23s for your '66 stang?

Let me think about that trade.....I don't think so.
Thanks for the info. I am using a T20 for home internet searching in the living room and a T22 is going to be used for custom EFI tuning.
Can you advise if PC133 is interchangable with the PC100 DIMM's on the T20 & T22? I assume that it may fit but will probably only run at PC100 speeds but if it will get me a noticable boost in performance to put 133 in when I add memory I might try to find the extra cash needed to do so.
Thanks
Wes

Some PC133 modules can be used in the T20/T22. You must use what is typically referred to as "low density" modules. For a 256MB PC133 CL3 module, that means there must be a total of 16 memory chips on board (8 on each side). And you are correct in thinking that they will only run at PC100 timing. As far as which ones are cheaper, you will probably find the PC133 costs less than PC100 (which is rarer and thus commands a slightly higher price).
edit: Here's a recent thread about T21 memory (which applies to your T20 and T22 systems):
