Does the T30 comes with recovery CD?

#1 Post by haivu » Sun May 23, 2004 8:21 am

Does the T30 comes with recovery CD or the recovery software stays in in a hidden partition? I am aware that for newer T4x, there is no CD, but what about older ones like T30?
Thanks.

No thinkpads come with the recovery disks. You can get them free within 30 days of purchase. You have to pay a nominal sum after that (if they're still available).

Keith and Hai,

Let me modify Keith's post just a bit, no Thinkpad ships with recovery CDs anymore. But there are many of us who remember opening the box containing our new Thinkpads and finding the CDs to be one of the first things we encountered. This was the case right through the 600X series.

If you need the recovery CDs nowadays, a call to IBM within the first 30 days of purchase will usually get them shipped for free, especially if you tell them you've damaged the recovery partition or are looking to install a larger HD.

After 30 days it's a little more difficult to get the CDs without spending a nominal $35 "fee" for them, but it can be done if the machine is still in warranty.

Regards,

James

i DO charge a copy fee for making a copy of the set you (or others) might need..

Thank you all for your quick reply. This forum rocks. I was asking this question because I bought the machine from eBay (used.) I'm still waiting for its delivery, but I thought I would ask to set up my expectation.

Another question: Since I am buying a used laptop (which is still under warranty), is there a way to extend the warranty from IBM's website? I have been looking all over IBM's site, but I could not find any information.

Thanks again.
